A Telnet MUD that compares to GSIII: Does it exist?

Before I dropped my prodigy account, I was addicted to Gemstone III. Man,
that MUD was awesome! I have not yet found a MUD I can telnet to that even
comes close. Does anyone know of a Gemstone like mud, that's compares in
quality, and playability?.

Heh, I used to be GS3 addict. The mud that I regularly play now is RealmsMud
at realms.dorsai.org 1501. There are always people logged on, like in
Gemstone (some unfortunate muds think that 10 people is a lot... ;), there
are several interesting guilds, and there isn't that *annoying* competition
for critters to hunt. Some disadvantages when compared to Gemstone, though,
are: you drop all your eq when you leave. At first this may come as a shock,
but money is so easy to come by in the game, it's sort of fun to get new eq
every time you log in. Some compensations for this are the guild storage
rooms, where you can usually find eq that you can rent out for free, and if
you're high enough in level, you can store eq in your house. Another
disadvantage is that the only way to get exp is to kill monsters, or go on
quests. There are no interesting guilds like the empath that can become
all-powerful without killing a thing, or exp-giving skills like lock-picking.
There are probably other muds that come closer to it somewhere, but Realms
is still a worthwhile game.
