alrigght, there is no apparent motion - wtf is going on?

are we being ignored over here?

can you get some action going?

were is aaron's root-buster anyway?

will there be a discontinuity in "memberships" due to the
extended downtime of the m-b0x? what will happen to my money while
the b0x is unusable?

where is mail being "kept?"

is carson going to get the other b0x on line? when?

I would hope that memberships continue as normal. Most of the
regular bills are going to be the same--phones, net connection, etc.,
so since they aren't free while M-Net is down I don't think anything
special should be done.

response 4 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 16 20:54 UTC 1996

Well, actually, I have a pending motion before the BoD to suspend
the running of all M-Net Memberships and Patronships from May 31
(when the new Internet connection fouled up mail) to whenever the
Bod certifies that M-Net is back to acceptable reliability.
I really don't think people should pay for down time.

i agree, dpc.

response 6 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 17 07:43 UTC 1996

and , due to the *extended* time involvement of *this* downtime, i agree.

let's create a calendar discontinuity for, ?? how many weeks ?? vis-a-vis
"continuity of membership."

m-net's operating expenses didn't cease because the machine failed.
we are still paying for rent/phone lines (mega bucks) so we shouldn't
expect a free ride.

i'm just asking a question here, so don't make too much out of it, k? -->

since m-nut patrons and members were turned into customers last year, just
what is it that they should expect?

response 11 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 18 13:22 UTC 1996

_Casper_ has set up the K-12 machine as a very temporary M-Net. No
modems connected to it yet, save for possibley the K-12 modems. I
wouldn't expect that situation to change, what with the regular system
due tomorrow. Telnet address is k-12.arbornet.org.

Remember to thank Mr. Hershey on your way out.

Finally, an alternative to grex, although it ain't all _that_ bad.

response 14 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 20 01:15 UTC 1996

So, since the regular system missed its due date, what's our dialin for this
genius "new system" that is up? Some of us don't do the telnet thang.
Re something a long time ago: The mail is being rejected and sent back. I
tried to mail something to myself and got a little message failed message
along with what I had written in my grex mailbox.

Thank you, so much, mr. hershey!

I just want to know since the system is "up" what is still wrong with
it???my watch file doesn't work and neither do half of the noises in party
When can we expect the system to work correctly???
And what is up with the guest dial-in lines???it always seems busy...

Once again (and again, and again), according to Craig, Ameritech has
fubared the trunkline, so you need to find a working line.

Watch is not a priority when you have one or two programmers up to their
eyeballs in bugs accross the entire system - jump right in there, sq -
I'm sure you can patch it up.

FWIW, mnet seems to have died sometime last night/early AM - I can't get
any keystrokes to work right and sometimes not even the same twice
running... This rather obviates even completeing a login, let alone
running any programs. I think I left when nothing typed at the prompt
came out in anything near english..

#15:
Watch doesn't compile under the new OS, so they have to edit the code
to work with the new wtmp files.
The chantab and noisetab files for party were chopped off at 3 and 4 k
respecively. We lost the vast majority of noises and most of the custom
channels.
The system will probably not work correctly until Arbornet dissolves
and a different 501(c)(3) aquires M-Net.
The modems no longer trunk hunt, so you and countless others are
competing for *1 line*. I hope you have a copy of the trunk hunt, but
even if you do, some of those lines are no longer part of the guest hunt
and I'm not sure where they'll take you.

response 18 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 20:15 UTC 1996

The TRUNK HUNT IS GONE? Are you serious? Thats an even bigger
Ameritech disaster than I've ever seen them do. Unbelievable.

response 19 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 21:50 UTC 1996

Yeppers..

According to craig in mnet party friday, he told them repeatedly
to remove msen and where it was - so naturally, they removed the trunk-host..

Of course, this is only a minor tragedy in the vast scheme of
things down the street, but it sure makes life amusing ;-/

response 20 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 23 05:27 UTC 1996

It makes it very easy to get on though, assuming you have a copy of
the trunk list.

ameritech .... ha!... ameriWreck ... "while we are doing something
you want, we thought we'd help you out by doing someting assinine as well."

response 22 of 24: Mark Unseen   Jul 24 16:13 UTC 1996

I've seen Ameritech lose the trunk hunt for Michigan State's dialins --
hundreds of them -- twice.

Well, M-Net is yo-yoing today. It's crashed twice on me while
I was trying to read the General conference. It responds to pings
but telnet times out.
