Desq View X
|

Does anybody know anything about Desq View X? I've heard it can run windows
applications without actually having to use windows. Is it like the version
of Desq View that won't run windows applications in terms of being very easy
to use without a mouse?

I don't think it runs windows a la Microsoft Windows. The X stands for
X-Windows, a Unix windowing environment. With DesqView X, your PC can
be used as an X-Windows terminal.

Not quite. DesqView X requires an add-on "Network Manager" package, plus
you also need to purchase an underlying "middleware" TCP/IP driver to
go with your network hardware. Once you've done all that, you can turn
your $3,000 pc into a $1,500 X-Terminal.

In current parlance that's what's called an "expensive solution."

...if all you plan to do with the PC is run X-windows. Presumably,
the user will also do other things--like run Flight Simulator--
with the PC.

DV-X's APIs can be used to write/run DV software that has nice graphics, too.
But generally, it's slower, and more of a resource hog than regular DV.
