Five-letter, Common Word Game, edition 2 Mark Unseen   Feb 13 16:37 UTC 1997

This is the new version of the five letter word game.
This item is for those of us who like the letter word game, but don't
 like the obscurity of the words. Two rules are different, then:
 words are five letters long, not six; the target words must be
 common enough that most people could be expected to know them,
 and they should appear in the standard student (high school, not
 graduate) desk dictionary. The old rules apply to guesses: they
 can be obscure or as common as desired, as long as they are words.

I'm thinking of a five-letter word, and in the finest tradition:
melon = 0

eagle

[btw, is the number you type when you respond to a guess the number of
correct letters? or the number of correct letters in the correct place?]

eagle = 1

1 means that you have one correct letter in the correct spot. If you get a
correct letter, but not in the correct spot, I will respond with 0, assuming
you have nothing else in the correct spot. So you might have all the correct
letters, but arranged to form a different word, and I would still say 0.
