Six Letter Word Game (4th Edition) Mark Unseen   Jan 29 00:59 UTC 1995

This is the Six Letter Word Game. We are now on the fourth
incarnation of this game. By mutual agreement among the players, when
we hit 1000 responses on the previous letter game item, we start a new
one. This helps speed up Picospan's response time.

I am currently thinking of a six-letter word, and it is the goal of
the respondants to guess my word. The prize for guessing the word is
the power to select the next word.

Rules may be found in /u/rcurl/lettermatch.rules (they were written
for the 5-letter version of the game), and I will be keeping a log of
guesses in /u/kentn/letter.match for as long as I am 'it'. Anyone may
play, and new players are very welcome to join in the guessing.

If this item already has a lot of responses to it, and you would like
to join the game, I recommend that you not try to read the whole item,
but go to the end and read back a few responses (if your pager is
_more_, hit 'q' at the "More" prompt and then enter "-10", or "-20" to
 see a little further back).

If you are 'it' and would like a more automated way of scoring and
recording guesses, the script file /u/kentn/do.lm may be of help. It
is readable and executable, so take a look at it and/or run it to see
what it's about. You can copy it to your directory if you'd like.

1032 responses total.

All words used previously as "targets" in letter.match are listed
in /u/rcurl/l.m.words

This item #70 in language has been linked from item #43 in iq.

BTW, Rane's list of previous target words is now 87 lines...is that
all the 6-letter targets or just most?

/u/rcurl/l.m.words has *most* of the 6 letter words. I did several
different searches after the first couple of rounds. One search was
on the number 6, which got a lot, but in many cases the number was
not given, but things like "bingo" said. I searched on a variety of
those expressions. But, if anyone wants to got back, and read every
round all the way throughy - be my guest.
