A festive, lowfat, not-too-weird birthday food? Mark Unseen   Apr 21 11:16 UTC 1994

A fellow at my office has a birthday coming up in a few days. I'd like
to bake cookies or brownies or something, but he's a bit overweight and
might not be interested in eating that kind of stuff. I'm looking for
ideas for foods to bring in to work that are somewhat festive, lowfat or
nonfat, and not too weird (so mainstream people will eat them instead
of getting weirded out). Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Angel food cake is fat-free.

I always love a fresh fruit salad with all the fruit cut up and then doused
in Grand Marnier for a great flavor. You can also add nuts. But dont try
to light birthday candles in it. . .they fall down. . .and go out.

 Yo, Valerie!

If he's "...a bit overweight..." (c'mon, Val! Don't you REALLY mean that
he's an OOBBBEEESSSEEE blubber-butt?!), I think that tends to imply that
he might be VERY INTERESTED in eating cookies & brownies!

While I support your concern/dislike for him being a chubster, quit trying
to be politically correct with your wording!

Fry up some tofu chunks with bits of pecans mixed in it, dye it brown,
& serve them to him. Meanwhile, you & all the other skiiny/normal people
in the office will grab the REAL brownies, which are on the other side of
the plate...

Assuming this guy is as politically correct as you are, he won't
complain about his 'brownies' tasting like Soylent Green, but will
pretend he likes them, & will go thru the act of begging you for the
recipe!

Why did I know that was coming even before it popped up on my screen?

You're getting too predictable, Timmy.

That may be true, Dan, but even I didn't think you'd be immature enough
to think that calling me "Timmy" would somehow offend me.

I like to make a spice chiffon cake, which isn't all that low-fat
as cakes go but tastes pretty good without frosting. It becomes
especially festive if served with fruit.

There was a recipe in last Wednesday's Snooze for fresh fruit and
pound cake kabobs. The pound cake (maybe angel food would work
just as well) was cut into 1" cubes and then dipped part way in
melted chocolate. After the dipped cake cubes were chilled they
were then skewered with fresh pineapple chunks, kiwi slices, and
whole strawberries. Looked wonderful!

<this is obviously passed, but...>
Angel food cake with strawberries. Just don't load on the sugar the way we
did in the 8th grade (never let a group of thirteen year old junior high
students who don't know anything about cooking be alone in the kitchen)
