Quenching Your Thirst Mark Unseen   Aug 16 00:23 UTC 2007

Though we have items on coffee as well as tea [and smoothies, too,
IIRC], how about a  generalized one for other sorts of drinks to
enjoy--either by itself or with a meal.  And  even water is a very
viable option and one I drink often, are there ways that you add a bit 
of flavor to it--like lemon or lime slices?

ingered Vanilla Mint Lemonade


Lemonade livened up with flavors of ginger, vanilla and mint. With a
little vodka, this  makes a great adult cocktail.

Ingredients:
10 mint leaves
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
3" piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
3 cups water
1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mint leaves for garnish
Method
Place mint leaves, sugar and lemon zest in the bottom of a 2 quart
pitcher. Bruise the  mint leaves by mashing with the back of a wooden
spoon. Puree ginger and water in a  blender. Pour into pitcher and add
lemon juice and vanilla. Stir well and refrigerate for  1 hour. Strain
the lemonade thru a double layer of cheesecloth before serving. Serve in
 glasses filled with ice and garnish with mint leaves. 

Notes: This refreshing drink will have your guests trying to guess the
secret flavors.  Add 1 cup vodka for a grown up adult cocktail.

Fizzy Peach Quencher


Fresh peaches are blended until smooth with pineapple juice and lemonade
 concentrate, then poured over ice. Club soda is added for a little
"fizz."

       
Ingredients:
3 medium peaches (peeled, pitted and coarsely chopped)
3 ounces pineapple juice (about 1/3 cup)
1/4 cup frozen lemonade concentrate
Ice
1 cup club soda
Method
Combine the peaches, the pineapple juice and the lemonade concentrate in
the jar of a  blender. Puree until the mixture is smooth and well
blended. Fill 4 tall glasses with ice.  Divide peach mixture among the
glasses. Top each glass with 1/4 cup club soda. Stir  gently to blend.
Serve immediately.

Notes: Wonderful thirst quencher on a hot day.
