Hi guys,
I am a newbie learning cooking. Wanted to know if there is any
cooking web site with lots of pics that identify the various
ingredients and stuff..i find a lot of recipes on rec.cooking but
well what the heck does chives look like?. Plus germans may call it
something equally weird so with photos i should be able to identify
stuff..
Also is there some web site that shows howto chop up porker/fowl.
I heard there is some weird way of carving it up. With lots of pics of
course.
I found a site http://www.hwatson.force9.co.uk
/magazine/2000/08-2000/pork.htm however it doesnt resemble any pig
ive seen!.
Bye

I am also a newbie learning cooking.

Snarf, one good suggestion is to get the Betty Crocker cookbook. I
don't know the exact name of it, but it is for beginners, has lots of
photos and illustrations, and tells you a great deal about the basics.
My mother gave me a copy early in my college days, and last year when I
started reading it, I found it helps a lot with the simple and easy
stuff.

I like Joy of Cooking for that kind of stuff, but it doesn't have a lot of
pictures.

The real problem with Betty Crocker is that it often assumes that you've
bought a prepared product that's basically done, & tells you to add
ingredients. Along the lines of: baked beans and franks: combine one 16 oz.
can of baked beans and one package hot dogs. Heat and serve.
