Nilex! *laff* Nilex was a terrible things, and I'm surpised it lasted for
the months it did. Nilex was shut down because ANYTHING went there.
Nilex had NO rules, and 1 sysop to mantain the hundreds of frequents.
Maddy himself isn't the most responcible person in the work.
Believe me I know him... Anyway like I said, nilex went down cause a bunch
of unixersity ladies logged in and took great offense to some of the
things they saw, heard, etc... If _any_ talker wants to succeed there need
to be clear cut rules from the beginning period. These ladies to it to'
the admins that nilex ran on, and a fter recieving hundereds of complaints
finally pulled the proverbial plug on it.
Don't ever expect to see it back up anytime soon, finding a site for it
would be a monumental task, as most everyone knows nilex's reputation.
Anyway. This is my first post here, hope ya found it informative...

I think the problem here is that most of the readers of this item are
not familiar with the definition of "talker". I wasn't until today,
when Adam (powerfox) explained it to me. It's an internet party site.
People can connect to a talker and have multiway online chats. They
support multiple rooms, like party does. Unlike party, you don't have to
be logged in. Some talkers are more restrictive than others, I gather,
as to what topics and language are permitted.

I am not fully clear on the differences between talkers and irc,
having used neither, but I understand that there are at least some
cultural differences. Are there technical ones, too?

I found your post very imnformative, powerfox. Feel free to elaborate
on talkers if you are so inclined.

IRC's... Mainly a junky interface, composing on hundreds of pseudo-channels
that's existance soley rely on a person, being in it. ie if a channel is
created by x and x leaves the channel is gone. IRC's have a bunch of commands
that attempt to make it more interesting to use.. I'd prefer a talker any day
:)

Party seems to be a scaled down version of an IRC, as far as I can tell.

Talkers, now to define a talker would be a little hard to do as many different
forms of talkers exist. Basically put, a talker is a user-friendly multi-ser
multi-user, real-time, chat program, that is accesible to anyone in the world
provided the have telnet capability of course. My talker, the resort,
is comprised of _many_ described rooms, wheer people can relax, chat, or do
whatever theree minds can come up with, you can create rooms, post news,
check mail, set sessions, play a game, and on and on and on. Basically stated
thats the differnces without going into lengthy details. Ack. too mant typoes
in here *grin*...
