When life just cuts you a raw deal (or how to deal with extreme disappointment)

Life's been tough lately. Two years ago, I escaped university by the
skin of my teeth. Then I went through two menial jobs that didn't pay
the bills, and we dug ourselves into debt. In the winter, we froze.
Last June, I lost my last job, and have been looking ever since.
January we finalize our bankruptcy. I've applied with the Department
of Vocational Rehabilitation and with Social Security (SSI and SSDI) to
make some sort of safety net.
Is there any relief in sight?
Well, I hope so. I just talked with my sister's boss today. I met her
and some of her co-workers from the Pasco Mid-Columbia library at a
Christmas party, and she was impressed with me from our conversations.
She's looking for an information substitute. The job is just 28 hours
a month at $15/hr (about $550/month), but at least I could partially
get off public assistance.
A silver lining to a dark cloud?

Let's hope so.
$ 550/month isn't much, though. Maybe there is chance to expand it to
40 hrs./week.
Somebody on Grex once told me that my salary was what one gets for
flipping burgers ($1400/month). Does this imply that librarians are
undervalued not matter the place on earth ?
(I am a library assistent)

It's a place to start. If the school board hires me, I'll likely
balance it with days substituting, unless subbing pays more.
There are plenty of important and fulfilling jobs that pay dirt-- I
think a lot of forestry jobs might fit in this category.

Well, another job lead came in-- I just had a telephone interview today
for a courier job. Okay pay, super benefits, and I know most of their
area already. If I get the job, I'll get a port-a-copier, cart, some
office supplies, and a cell phone =) and maybe a laptop and scanner in
April. but that's if.
