Kids are slaves to their parents
|

In my humble opinion, parents treat kids like there slaves.
"Clean your room," "Wash the dishes", "Walk the dog", "Clean the house"
And my allowance is 5 bucks a week. Ummm .. i think I should get more.
I can't even go to the mall alone (meaning my mom or dad would have to come
with me), and .. uhh.. can't even mention it it makes me so MAD!
They bark all these orders, then what do they do? Sit around the house on
THEIR lazy butts and watch Montel WIlliams.

I don't know... we live in a country where parents treat their kids much nicer
than they do in other countries... routine physical discipline, as they would
call it in Asia, is considered child abuse here. In Madagascar, people have
children for the purpose of having people around to help on the farm. I saw
a video in biology class with this guy who said he wanted to have 3 more kids
or his farm would die. How do you think those kids feel about it? i'm
guessing they don't get to talk back to their parents about it much.

I remember feeling the same way gabygirl does. Here I was being forced to
go to school and to help out a bit, while my parents were able to spend some
small amount of time relaxing and not working. It's probably the standard
way to feel at that age, and even somewhat reasonable, but it also shows a
bit of a misunderstanding of what parents' lives are probably actually like.
I'm continually amazed, now that I am working full time and supporting
myself, when I look back at my childhood and realize how much I complained
about being made to do things, and at the same time how much free time I had.
While I got to go to school (which included an hour or two of "recess" per
day), and then came home, did whatever small amount of work it was that my
parents wanted done, and then went out and played with my friends for the rest
of the afternoon, my parents were off at work, having to earn the money to
buy me everything I had, to pay for my food, and my housing, and all the other
things they were paying for.

My father is always at home and doesn't do much more than take up space. He
doesn't ask me to do alot, but I get mad about the stuff he does ask me to
do. He could do it just as easily as I could, not to mention he had all day
to do it. I was working at school all day and I'd like to relax after my long
day, especially now that I have a job too! I don't get an allowance, never
really have, so its not like I was getting paid for menial slave work. The
thing I hate most are his stupid excuses... "this is my roof" yadda yadda
yadda "I feed you" blah blah blah... all stuff that he is legally obligated
to do anyway... I wonder why he never said I should do it because it would
be a big help and he would appreciate it. Or even because he loves me or vice
versa......

Getting an allowance, for people who do, is a pretty small part of the money
they get from their parents. Many parents don't get much of an allowance
either; the money they make goes into paying for the things like food and
housing that you take for granted.
