What are your priorities in life? Mark Unseen   Oct 14 11:55 UTC 1995

What are your priorities in life? A good friend of mine volunteered that
hunting (guns) was his highest priority. This astounded me and upon further
questioning, he put the top three in order:
      #1. Hunting & guns
      #2. Job
      #3. Family
I told him I couldn't believe he was serious, and he told me he was absolutely
serious. I had never put things in priority order before, but to me it was
obvious that #1 was family, #2 (probably) was job and #3 was ????.

I have other friends, who I would guess that would say #1 is golf, however
I have not asked them.

(Oh yes, the friend whose top priority was hunting & guns was married and had
children).

It probably is healthy to think about the general order of one's priorities.
 How do yours stack up?

#1. Wife
#2. Children
#3. Friends(including cyberfriends)
#4. Work

I know of some people who have their priorities messed up. I would think
though that this is just a small percentage of the population.
(At least I would hope so)

Haven't we been through this elsewhere?

Responded to with your typical loquaciousness, Katie. You should be a
politician; there
erp there'd be a Hell of a lot less filibustering and a lot more
productivity. *grin*
(That *was* meant as a compliment, btw.)

I dont think there is anything wrong with considering close friends as family,
even if you only know them as a login on a pc.

I don't think so, either.

I put together a little survey....it is fairly simple but may give us some
idea about the priorities about people.
I will try to post it in agora to get a wide cross section of responses..
I will try to post results here...

Well so far the most responses have come for the Family..This is good to see.
Here is the tally so far:
Family: 6
Friends: 4
Job: 0
Money: 0
Self: 3

This is really encouraging...

Priorities in life:
1. Friends (girlfriends included)
2. My twinbrother (family)
3. Respecting each other
4. Without 3 love cannot exist, love
5. Job
6. Travelling
7. All of the above together would make me really happy.

response 21 of 47: Mark Unseen   Apr 19 20:11 UTC 1996

So many people do not realize that love cannot exist without respect first...
Looks to me like you have things in order...
I need to check my survey and find out how things are going...post in a bit!

Some of these things are a bit unclear, though. Does "job" mean that
your priority is "keeping your boss happy" or "not getting fired" or
"a job that is interesting and challenging" or "money from my job" or
what?

3. Career
2. Immediate family (i.e. wife, pets)
1. Regular trips to the bathroom (I mean, I can go on a trip and not
see my wife for a few days, but can't do without this one...)

Probably if someone lists "job" or "work" they are referring to the sense of
accomplishment (Maslow's 'self actualization') they get from whatever it is
that they do.
