Cedar Bend Park fireplace Mark Unseen   Feb 19 22:44 UTC 1993

I am trying to do a report for school on that old fire place in Cedar Bend
Park. Does anybody here know anything about it?

Where is Cedar Bend Park, and what's there (besides an old fireplace)?

Is this in the Ann Arbor area?

Yeah, its in the Ann Arbor area, along the river, bordering on Island Park
(by the hospital). In addition to the fireplace, there is also a parking lot,
and a steep wooded hill with trails on it. It is one of the oldest parks in
the City, having been bought in 1905.
In the course of doing the research on the fireplace, I talked to Al Gallup,
whose father ran the Ann Arbor Parks Department for several years. Apparrently
the fireplace was built in the '30s with WPA funds, as a picknicing spot.
Now, it is pretty run down, but somebody I talked to at the Parks Dept. said
that they are planning to renovate it sometime.

Can you be more specific where it is? Sounds interesting.

Cedar Bend was the numero uno make-out spot when I was in school.

Just get an Ann Arbor map and look up Cedar Bend Park or Island Park.

Oh yeah, ruin the whole item after only six responses. Jeez, we're
gonna run out of items any day now!

Well now that its ruined, where is is exactly? I know the Island Park
area, but I can't picture the fireplace being talked about. I thought I
knew the place fairly well.

If you go into the parking lot (Island Drive) and go all the way down to the
end of it, where the dirt road goes up the hill, and turn right at the do not
enter signs, you will come to it at the very end of the parking lot. It is
a fairly big fireplace, and not that easy to miss if you look for it.
