Switch settings on Mitsubisi MR535-U00: HELP!
|
Jun 18 15:49 UTC 1993 |
I would like to configure a Mitsubishi MR535-U00 hard drive as drive
#1. I don't have documentation but it has 2 DIP switches on the bottom,
SW1 and SW2. SW2 has D1, D2, R, DS4, DS3, DS2 and DS! scweened on the
board. No markings for SW1. There is also a 3 pin header, sans jumper
block, marked CP1 and CP2. I don't think I need to worry about this one.
This drive will be the only one on the system, so the terminators must
be in place and I will be using RLL instead of MFM. (The drive is built
to take either.)
Can anyone help me out on this?

DS1, DS2, DS3, and DS4 are probably the drive-select jumpers. If
it's an MFM/RLL (ST-412 interface) drive, then it can only be one
of four addresses, so you most likely close the DIP switch corresponding
to the address you want (1, 2, 3, or 4) and open the others. Terminating
resistors are probably in a socketed DIP or SIP pack somewhere on the
drive, although the R DIP switch might enable/disable them as well.
Have you tried calling Mitsubishi to get the jumper/switch settings?

Thanks mju! That makes sense. Looks as though this drive was set to
be drive 2. There are no socketed devices on the board, so I suspect
you are right about the R switch. It was on, which would make sense
if this was the last drive at one time. I tried calling their BBS, but
that had been disconnected. I will try to find their vox No. if I still
have problems.

A list of technical support numbers I have here at work says that
Mitsubishi's tech support number is (800)344-6352.

I turned off the DS2 switch and on the DS1 switch. Now everything is
fine! Did a low level format, etc., no sweat. Thank to all for your
help!
fw: Go ahead and kill this item in a few days if you like.
