Welcome/ideas and comment Mark Unseen   Jan 19 20:12 UTC 1995

There are lots of interesting discussions happening thoughout Grex.
The Grex News Network is here to keep you up to date on hot discussions
which slipped in while you have been tending other business. When you
find something worth further investigation, have at it. If a summary
here will do, great.

Everyone is welcome to contribute an article about areas of Grex which
need more exposure or more input. I'm hoping to get articles about
some of those items which are over 100 replies long so I don't have to
read the whole things. The Party needs a few reporters to keep us abreast
of the action there. Who's who here on Grex needs to be explored by
folks doing interviews or maybe some autobiographies.

Here is the place to generate ideas about how to make our newsroom more
effective. Want to see certain articles? Ask for them here. Late breaking
news or hot items, post them to the next item.

What other names access this cf, besides grexnews?

response 3 of 19: Mark Unseen   Jan 21 06:59 UTC 1995

I presume that this cf is intended to be the "inbox" for the Grex
Newsletter. Yes?

Rane, Popcorn helped with the initial setup. I don't knowwhat other names
could access this cf although there may be some I suppose.
This is a learn as I go situation. Any advice or help would be appreciated
(or criticism :-). I really don't know the ins and outs of the was Grex
works yet.

Every user can access this cf by entering j grexnews. I've put it at the
top of my .cflist, so I see it even before agora - like reading the
headlines in the morning newspaper. I'd suggest that item 1 be used for
discussions concerning the conference, and that the rest of the items be
"news releases" and discussion thereof, one "release" per item.

In regard to how grex works...well, that's a learn by doing situation!
And, by asking. Are you familiar with the FW commands, for editing the cf
login or logout messages, and a few other things? If you would like a
co-fw, I'd be glad to help - though conferences mostly run themselves.

I printed the fw commands today. Who could we ask to write some features
or headline articles?

I ask again - is this for material to find its way into the (prospective)
Grex Newsletter? When one is writing, there is nothing more important than
the *audience* for whom one is writing. If you seek News for on-line
reading, it is different than News for more pent preservation in a
printed (as well as online) newsletter.

Having said all that - well, we can ask anyone that has any News! This
includes the officers, and their areas of responsibility, the committees
and theirs, and of courseothers users doing anything by or for
Grex.

Rane, I figured this wouldn't be a private news area. If anyone wants
to post an article or if you know anyone who mihgt want to write one
everyone can get involved. Unlike the other cfs which have short
entries for discussion, this cf is for articles and comments about
the articles at the end like op-ed. Several interesting entries around
grex are long and full of side tracks. A condensation of some of those
could be real helpful. When a controversial item gets posted or one
which is getting lots of input, it would be nice to know where the action
is.

Andy, you can link any item from any other cf, here. I suggest, for
starters, to link the Grex Newsletter item in coop here, as the
coming newsletter is about Grex News.

Something did not happen here? I wonder if this should just be
headlines - by your leave, sire? Pointing to other hot conf's?
