Flower & Garden Shows
|
Feb 22 22:15 UTC 1999 |
In case anyone missed the story in the Ann Arbor News:
After last year's Ann Arbor Flower Show, the sponsoring organization --
UM's Matthai Botanical Gardens -- announced that it would not be putting
on the show any more.
Leslie & I thought that was the end of it. However, the show has been
resurrected with corporate sponsorship, and this year's edition will
take place the first weekend in April, if I remember correctly.

The garden exhibits seemed to be about half the size of last year's,
and a little less interesting. The plant competitions were completely
scrapped. Many of the most interesting vendors from last year
were gone. We were speculating that many vendors and exhibitors chose
to go to the DTE Detroit Bloomfest, whose inaugural show was the weekend
after the Ann Arbor show. (And we got too busy to go to Cobo Hall
for that show, so we can't bring you a report.)
The Saturday night crowd at the Ann Arbor show seemed much lighter
than the crowds I remember from the previous two years. I'll be
curious to see if the Ann Arbor show is attempted again in 2000.
