Modems not answering Mark Unseen   Dec 1 14:59 UTC 2005

The modems haven't answered for weeks.
I've been trying 484-0512 and 484-0513 every day,
and they still don't answer. When will they be back?

Staff will look into it during the next site visit to Provide.net.
A date is currently being scheduled.

modems are now answering, but aren't giving the login: prompt.
instead, they give a string of garbage characters and I can't login.

Possibly the modems are set for a different speed than what's given in
/etc/ttys.

The modems should sense my baud rate and adjust accordingly.
THey've always worked before, up until about three weeks ago.

Yes, but the baud rate between the modem and Grex may be different than the baud rate the two modems are communicating at. Some modems let you specify a specific, fixed baud rate for that part of the connection.

I've rolled out a fix that hopefully sorted the problem. Can
someone more local to grex than Tokyo please give the line a
ring and see whether you can get in now?

Thanks.
