AA Chamber of Commerce
|
Nov 22 01:37 UTC 1993 |
Anyone have any experience with the AA Chamber of Commerce and its programs?
I've been thinking about joining for a while now, but can't decided if it
is worth the membership fee (>$200/year last time I checked).

I used to belong the the Southern Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. Whether
that was valuable depends on what you are looking for. Business contacts are
one benefit; people get to know you and vice-versa. I never really got any
business out of it that I could tell, but then again it may just be that I
wasn't aware of it. I tend to think the former though.

I'm planning to make a field trip to the AA Chamber of Commerce tomorrow.
I'm thinking of starting a business and want to find out what programs
they have that could help.

Here's a plug for all non-profit organizations to contact Non-profit
Enterprise at Work (my internship site) for info on resources
available. Don't suppose, Valerie, that you're planning on
forgoing any profits (on purpose, that is)?

Valerie could start a non-profit, hire herself as Executive Director,
and pay herself a big salary - well, you have to take a few intermediate
steps to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest, but *hundreds*
of non-profits do that. I've taken some workshops for non-profits
(for land trusts, in particular) and they can be inspirational at the
minimum, and useful at the maximum. I think their utility depends on
your exact position with respect to needing the specific information
provided. Then, there is the NEW Center course "Achieving Effective
Decisions in Meetings: How to Get As Much Done in Half the Time"
(3 November), that sounds perfect for some organizations that I know ;-).
