Auto Insurance Advice Sought Mark Unseen   Sep 28 18:18 UTC 1993

I'm about to buy my first car. Or rather, I'm being given a car and my
brother is helping ,e out with the funds to put it on the road. Next
I need insurance. Can anyone suggest a good agent? Since the car dates
in its teens, I'll only be buying liability.

If you don't value the membership perks of AAA, you might try shopping by
phone for quotes from independent insurance agants. They are required to
offer you the lowest quote of all the companies they handle. And price AAA,
too, as sometimes they are in line with some of the other companies. I have
been happy enough with Roosevelt (in Ann Arbor) and Associated Group Under-
writers (Livonia?).

I agree with katie about independent agents. I got in a tiff with
State Farm over a claim 11 years ago and switched to an agent.
I use Kleinschmidt Agency now (They're on Huron near the city bldg).

Allstate was good on a claim and State Farm was terrible.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I've started calling around
and so far everyone seems to agree that around $350 for 6 months
is about right. I'll ry the specific agents you all mentioned being
satisified with, though.
