Nanci Griffith has a lot of great country/bluegrass/folk tunes with themes
that could be lumped into the feminist category.

Wasn't intending to see it, as I assumed it was yet another
attempt to cash in on cyberspace hype by people who don't
really know much about the internet and are prejudiced
against it. I take it that's not the case? If so, I'll
   reconsider.

Has anybody out there listened to Mary Chapin Carpenter? She writes her
own stuff, and most of it is about being your own person and standing up
for yourself. She is sort of country/folk artist. As for movies,
a person in my feminist theory class last semester did a term presentation
on sexism and movies, and unfortunately/fortunately, I've never really
seen them the same way since then. He pointed out the dearth of strong
female charactors, and showed quite a few popular films in which the few
women in the film are portrayed as quite brainless. I've yet to see
The Net, but perhaps I will anyways. Sounds interesting...

I think it is about time that woman start getting meaty roles in
action/adventure/thriller movies.......and not the kind of roll where all they
are there for is to show their breasts.......I think Sandra Bullock is a good
example of Women getting some decent roles...on the other hand I have a hard
time digesting Sharon Stone and some of her more recent rolls...

Sandra Bullock had a good role in "Speed". It was no big deal she
was a woman.
