Text Formatting Revisited Mark Unseen   Dec 30 06:53 UTC 1997

To reiterate my earlier strictures regarding the proper
formatting of text, let me say again:

        (1) Use proper margins, both right and left. Text that
is flush with the edge of the paper or screen is SO
        unattractive!

        (2) Do not make the error, so common in online text entry,
of having your lines too long. Ten words per line is
about right. The 80-column terminal width standard did a
disservice to us all. Look at almost any book; you will
see that there are about ten words on each line, sometimes
a little more, sometimes a bit less. So much easier to
read than the long, strung-out lines that one sees in so
        much online text.

        (3) Do not, I repeat DO NOT, type two spaces between
sentences. Use just one, the same as between words
within a sentence. The text flows so much better visually
        if you do this.

Re #2: Those are not bad margins, although I tend to make
        mine a little narrower.

                             If
                            some
                             is
                            good,
                            more
                             is
                           better.

To add to what I said in #0: One should also make
appropriate use of b^Hbo^Hol^Hld^Hdf^Hfa^Hac^Hce^He type for proper
        emphasis.

        Also, u^H_n^H_d^H_e^H_r^H_s^H_c^H_o^H_r^H_i^H_n^H_g^H_ should not be
        neglected.
