What Am I? (Part III) Mark Unseen   May 22 10:03 UTC 1997

This is the Game of Nutrition Facts Labels, Part III. Here is how
it is played:

Someone enteres the nutrition facts label from a food product;
others try to guess the food. The first person to guess correctly
gets to enter the next Mysterious Label.

Following tradition, I am entering this item in Enigma with the
expectation that it will be linked to Kitchen. I'll let Valerie
take it from there; I believe there may be a Label in Progress.

This item is now linked from Enigma 289 to Kitchen 137. We need to find
someone to link it to the Puzzle conference, too. (Carson is the fw there,
but hasn't logged in recently.)

Here's the current food-to-be-guessed, from the previous "What Am I" item:

(Procedural question: Will we know when somebody guesses it?
Amy doesn't seem to be around much these days.)

Good point, Martha. I'll send her e-mail to ask. Grex says she was last
logged in on May 6.

Those funky new baked-not-fried potato chips?
abchan
response 6 of 324: Mark Unseen   May 26 19:05 UTC 1997

Re: #3 and #4 I am alive. End of the semester crunch has ended.
Not rice cakes.
Not funky (or non-funky) baked-not-fried potato chips.
(Am I doing this right? Or am I supposed to give hints?)

response 7 of 324: Mark Unseen   May 26 21:22 UTC 1997

You're doing fine. If we start sounding stumped, or if we stop guessing,
or if you happen to think up an interesting hint that you want to pass along,
then by all means go ahead and give hints.

response 8 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 3 16:34 UTC 1997

Okay, well people have stopped guessing, so I take that as a hint that I
should be giving some hints :)

Uh, I guess the rice cakes were sorta on the right track as this is a member
of the grain food group.

Now somebody guess! :)

Veggie burgers?

Oh, for other folks reading this: Type "only 1" to see the label info again.

<abchan wasn't aware that veggie burgers belonged to the grains food group>

No, not veggie burgers.

Any other guesses?

<What do you make veggie burgers out of anyway?>
valerie
response 13 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 12 06:43 UTC 1997

(Actually, there are dozens of ways to make veggie burgers. I've run across
ones made from any of: tempeh, black beans, walnuts and oats, textured
vegetable protein, and assorted ordinary veggies (carrots, potatoes, etc.))

Unsalted pretzels?
abchan
response 17 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 19 17:28 UTC 1997

No, not breakfast cereal.
Not unsalted pretzels.
<isn't sure what else to say about said item and hopes for more guesses>

response 18 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 19 18:57 UTC 1997

Does popcorn qualify as a grain?
Unsalted popcorn, perhaps?
valerie
response 19 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 20 04:17 UTC 1997

Crackers? Rolled oats? Bread?
abchan
response 20 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 20 16:17 UTC 1997

I'm not sure if popcorn is a grain.
But it's not unsalted popcorn.
Not crackers.
Not rolled oats.
Not bread.
<abchan thinks if there hadn't been a massive delay in restarting this item,
people would have gotten it sooner since she could have sworn she said what
she was eating for a few days... or she's getting senile>

response 22 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 23 16:59 UTC 1997

Any more guesses? Please? I don't know what other hints to give; maybe
someone could ask a question?
orinoco
response 23 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 23 20:01 UTC 1997

Does it consist of just the grain (like popcorn or some cereals) or the grain
plus other stuff (like baked goodies or more complicated cereals)?
abchan
response 24 of 324: Mark Unseen   Jun 24 21:18 UTC 1997

Simple grain. Although when cooking and consuming said item one often adds
other non-grain things.
(does that help? guesses?)
