The letters are all notes of the scale, so I assume it's a piece of
music. Maybe the "E and B" part is a key signature, meaning those
notes are to be flatted. This would make it the key of B flat major
or g minor. I don't recognize the melody, but it sounds vaguely
like a Bartok Hungarian folk melody.

I almost got up to pick it out, but tried to hum it instead. No wonder
I didn't recognize it - who can hum Bartok?

oh cool you people are good!
Especially you remmers! Well, I was just doing this as a sort of enigmatic
experiment, so I may have gotten the notes wrong, but the e and b being
flat is right. However it sure ain't Bartok!!! Let's see if someone can guess
this.

ok, i double checked this and i missed a few notes. it should read like
this:
C G A B C A G A F A G
E G A B F C D
D A F A G E C
D A F A G E C
C G E G F D C D A D B G B G F
E and B
some hints:
this is piano music of early twentieth century.
It is rather well known.
The big problem is that from the info i give you its hard to know if
the note coming after a note is higher or lower than the note it comes
after.
more hints, but not too much:
This musicis classical in nature.
It is not played fast.

Hmm. Maybe classical ragtime then. "Do not play this music fast", as
Scott Joplin used to say. But so far I don't recognize it. The way
the music is presented, neither the octave nor the time value of the
notes is indicated.

not classical ragtime.
let see:
meter: 4/4
time value...... gee You guys make it hard to be enigmatic! :-)
let's try this and see if it helps....
2 3 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 4
1 1 1 1 4 2 8
2 3 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2
2 3 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2
2 3 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 2 2
Still cryptic enough, I think, but it should give a clue to timing.

You give in too easily. All the better, for I shall be the monster
that ate Ann Arbor.
