My favorite four titles: A Whole New Life (reynolds Price);
My Well-Balanced Life on One Leg (Al Ka (oops) Capp);
Favorite Son (Lew Puller); Aftermath (Fred Downs). Wars
create a lot of amputees, and Puller's and Downs' books
deal with wartime amputation and the life that follows.
Capp lost his leg when he was run over by a trolley. He
lost it as a boy. Interestingly, he wrote/drew a cartoon
titled Al Capp by *Li'l Abner* that dealt with living
with an amputation. I believe it was distributed to vet
amputees by the VA. Reynolds Price's book is good reading
for anyone, disabled or not.

One of the most insightful books on Deafness is SEEING VOICES by Oliver
Sacks ("The Man who mistook his Wife for a Hat" is another of his books).
He is a neurologist and also is a Hearing person so I was naturally surprised
when I read his book. It is so insightful!
