I am in the process of compiling resource material for handicapped
travelers, so you and I are on the same wave length. I am interested,
eventually, in writing about the opportunities and problems at vaious
specific sites involving personal experience (eg. Venice , NYC
restaurants, etc). I came across a new paper back last month detailing
the first hand travel experiences of a large number of disabled people and
will be glad get to back to you re the title and publisher.
I think a WWW home page would be a great idea and I would be glad to
collaborate with you on it. Finding source material on the Internet has
been very frustrating!

I am doing research on people with or susceptable to a genetic disease
and the problems they have with life and medical insurance. If a hereditary
disease runs in your family--Huntington's, Muscular Dystrophy, etc.---
do you hesitate getting a test? If you a researchers, do you need
more genetic material available within the same biological families?
..Has anyone been turned down for insurance or lost it?....
Any comments along these lines and more are appreciated!

Greetings all:
Where did everybody go? I haven't seen any posts here in days.
Did you guys find a better place to go? If so tell me where so
I can join you.
Anyway, my private insurance company just offered to "pay" to have
someone help me get my SSDI. The only thing I would have to do in
exchange is sign over all information from social security to them.
This is the company providing me with LTD.
What do ya think?

My daughter uses an Invacare chair that was "resonably" priced. If you
call them at (800) 331-9492 I'm sure they will send you some
information or have a representative contact you.

the net would be lovely. Thank you very much.

Hello All,
I am posting to this news group for two reasons:
1) I would like email from anyone who can tell me about ANY
resources for the disabled on the internet. I am building a web
page with links to those resources. as soon as its up I will post
the URL for everyone.
2) I have an uncle who lives in upstate NY (Ogdensburg), who is
disabled and I am trying to locate free or VERY cheap Internet
access for him. Does anyone know of anyway to get him free access
in his area. I has a computer and a modem but he must call long
di$tance to Syracuse and pay Compu$erve for access to the net.
If you have any ideas email me at:

Hello. My name is John Woodward. Some of you may know me through my
articles in The Disability Rag and The MOUTH!, or through my presentations
on the Social Security Work Incentives.
For a new Rag article, I am trying to determine how people feel about IL
centers at present -- specifically:
1) How do you see the future of IL funding?
2) Are CILs making good use of the opportunities provided by the ADA?
3) Why are so many people setting up consumer-driven advocacy
organizations that theoretically duplicate the mission of the ILs? Do you
feel that your voice doesn't count in the ILCs? Have they become "part of
the system?"
4) Are there many ILCs with non-disabled Executive Directors in your area,
and does this affedt (or is it perceived to affect) the advocacy ability
of your ILC?
5) What have ILCs been able to do in your area to build coalitions with
other agencies, groups?
This article is intended to summarize the state of Independent Living at
age 25 (it has been 25 years since the first one was founded, in Berkley).
You can post here to this new thread, or e-mail me at
woodward.@freenet.scri.fsu.edu or call me at (904) 386-8091.
I look forward to hearing from you.
