News Servers (No, I dont mean dejanews)

Speaking of things to be looked for, (or not, as the case may be) I'm looking
for a public news server that allows posting and actually keeps itself up to
date on messages. I know of one that has perfect up-to date newsgroups, and
doesn't allow posting, and I know of one that allows posting (on something
silly like 30,000 news groups, or so it claims - are there really that many?)
but I haven't found a public one that can that can do both these things.
Having been completely spoiled in University, I resent having to pay for a
news account.. ;-)

Try http://www.jammed.com/~newzbot for a list (and remove the obvious
dial-up connections selected).
Or, http://rns.8m.com for a list.
Remember that these things change, and many are blocked once nutcases
go out and use them to spam and block discussion.
Personally I use news.ripco.com for reading, and post from my
own news server or use one on the list from jammed.com. It works well.
