You want hints? here's a few. 1. study how systems work 2. Programming is a
major key to learning how to really hack. 3. peruse sites such as
Antionline.com, l0pht.com, counterpane.com, cert.org, and ieee.org 4. read
all of the cert advisories and RFCs 5. sign up for mailing lists about
security, hacking, and virii 6. install and spend a lot of time learning
linux/UNIX 7. hack your own machine and I don't mean just attacking it, I also
mean configuring ittill it can't be configured better, although you can always
improve on configurations 8. don't mess with government sites 9. read anything
you can get your hands on. as a closing note I'd just like to remind you
that you shouldn't attack a site unless you have permission (DUH!) and have
fun.

I'd also like to ad, that if you do join any discussion lists, newsgroups,
or hang out in any hacking oriented channels on the IRC, please use regular
english. No matter what you hear, typing like th15 1s n0t 37331!

And of course, you should check out www.cultdeadcow.com, just to bask in their
glory...
(RFCs make me itch - too bad they're so useful..)

Go to www.mcp.com and read as much as you can. They have good books on
Pearl,C++,Java,CGI, and TCP. Its all free. And anything else you might want
to learn. Also read some on some unix os, they have all. And server security.
Also like Thomas said type normal. Unless you can type in Japanese or another
language. It really impresses me when I dont know what the hell someone is
typing.

have encountered peolpe with tons of books about os, programming and such but
does not understand any of them.

cryotek is right...don't just read. understand what you're reading. there's
so much out there to learn, that you just can't say "HELP I'M NEW" or
something like that. read and study...and if there's something specific you
don't understand, get help. take advantage of the compilers here on
cyberspace.org. play with your shells. see what you can get them to do. but
here's the real key: don't just play with other people's programs - if you
don't know what these programs are doing or how they are doing it, don't use
it. it'll only get you in trouble.

good luck. and happy hacking.
oh yeah...and please...don't ever say 31337 again. ick.

I also agree with the don't say 31337. First, I think that elite is a term
over used and often abused. I don't think any one is elite. Elite is someone
who knows everything, and thats impossible to do in the world of computers.
Also, elite people if they existed would be unknown. Because if you know
thatmuch, you are either dead, or hiding very very well. Besides, hacking
should not be about being the best compared to everyone else....its a hobby
for you. Being a hacker is something you should persue when you actully know
what it is. Most hackers I know didn't say "I wanna be a hacker" they were
into networks and systems and got into hacking while they mastered there UNIX
skills. Anywayts, I am babbling...u can telll I have been around toooo long.

See ya all
