AKIRA Mark Unseen   Sep 3 15:31 UTC 2004

I have noticed something strange. It has to do with the movie AKIRA by
Katsuhiro Otomo. The strange thing is that so many people hate the movie.
I persomally love the movie, and I consider it my favorite movie. And then
there is the manga. The manga version of AKIRA (which the movie was based
off of) is so well done, and... beautiful, I don't see how anyone can not like
it. Now, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking "Hey, this is
completely off topic". I don't think so. AKIRA has alot to do with the kind
of people who read this haven we have here. Wether you be Geek, Hacker, or
you just like this place, AKIRA has influenced our wonderful hobby (although
to me computers are more than a hobby, they are a way of life). So, if you
want to flame me for being "off topic" go ahead, but give me your opinion
about AKIRA, both the movie and the manga.

It's a very well done anime. I prefer anime along the lines of Ghost in the
Shell, futuristic and tech heavy. I'm also a big fan of Cowboy Bebop. I've
never read a manga, but I would consider giving Akira a go.

I really urge you to read the manga. It's WAYYYY better than the anime could
ever hope to be. Like, the movie takes from most of the first book, about
ten pages of the rest of the books, and maybe thirty from the last book. Not
to mention that Kaneda's jacket is even cooler in the manga.

I love Akira. I own some Akira comics(mangas) and they're just incredible,
but I've got a censured version of it.
I really loved the movie, it has some changes, but it's cool anyway, it show
us some really cool spirit of the cyberpunk genre.
I don't really know why some people don't like akira. I think it's because
they don't simply like the idea of a distopian future, a dark future.

P.D.:Hell, this topic is from 4 years ago.
