note to the newbies Mark Unseen   Oct 27 21:44 UTC 2002

hi,
i have seen a lot of wannabe hackers going to newsgroups like alt.hackers and
expecting to learn how to hack. they fill the newsgroup with quetions like
"canyou teach me how to hack?" and "how can i hack?" and then there are the
people who want REAL info. and when the go to alt.hack they find those extra
dumb questions. well, i am a newbie, and i dont go to dumb newsgroups like
alt.hack but i go to newsgroups like comp.security.unix that is where you will
find a wealth of infoon computers. just a note to the newbies. regards, kold

The reason for these dumb questions is, and I guess everyone knows this,
television and other media making hackers look like hero's and stuff. THen
there are the buissenis related media which makes hackers look like thiefs,
and then there are come nerds who make hackers look like people who have lot's
to do with computers, point is, those might verry well be hackers but not all
of these hackers do this, you have hackers creating a bbs or something on a
computer, there ones was a hacker who discovered that you can create
electricity with magnets and vica versa. If you want to know about computers,
and I believe that there is more to know about them now than 20 years ago,
you'll have to indeed look at newsgroups but thats not all offcourse, pratice,
fail and start again, but don't forget the social life btw :-)

I too am still a newbie, and I doubt there will be a day I'm not, though I
know the hacker culuture goes beyond computer knowledge. That's why I was sad
when I read the two messages following this one, they were just technical
questions, is a conference about cyberculture a place for this?

greets,
mistery

PS: This is my first time on a bbs ;-)

Alright, I highly doubt anyone is going to answer this, and it really wouldn't
surprise me if they didn't but where can you find good hacking tutorials, I
keep searching and i can't find anything, I spent more time searching for ways
to learn about computers than actually learning them! And yes i go to
astalavista.com and use google and all of that stuff. So if you can help me
find good hacking tutorials, E-mail me at Vaughn1125@msn.com(I don't think
the E-mail on this system is working correctly, or it could just be that when
i ask my friends to E-mail me here to test it, they don't).

Ok - Straight up, good point. But I think something needs to be clarified,
you have 'Newbies' and tho their knowledge on the subject maybe minute
compared to the knowledge held by the 'hacker' who has been in the game 6
months longer, but every1 started somewhere, the people who should annoy any1
are those who 'pose' as hackers for whatever reason - They give honest newbies
a bad name and have no intention of learning for themselves. Secondly, to
freddude, probably the best place to start looking is textfiles.com - A wealth
of info about hacking and things you'll probably never need to know. enjoy.
