This item has been linked from Co-Op 79 to Intro 65.
Type "join coop" at the Ok: prompt for discussion of
how Grex is run, and how Grex should be run, and whether
those two are the same.

The job seems a bit vague... only one person to encourage membership?

Most volunteer organizations appoint the chairs of committees, and the
chairs appoint the members of the committee. The exceptions are when
there is a need of particular representation on the committee, from
different groups (such as other committees).

The motion would be something like "Paul Kershaw is appointed the chair of
the membership committee, and may appoint additional members of the
committee."

This is serious, folks. We are at 93 members now, and we will need more
than that to support ourselves after we move. We need someone with good
marketing skills to devise ways to encourage more people to become members.
We have a whole lot of users who don't become members, and right now we are
getting desperate for their help.

I mean it. The number of members we have now will likely NOT BE ENOUGH to
pay for our expenses once we move. WE NEED MORE. Frankly, I suck at
marketing, or I'd volunteer. Please, if we don't get members this way,
we're going to be forced to do something ugly like charge to put up web
pages, or charge to have private party channels. No one wants to do that
if we don't have to, but if we don't have enough money, what else can we do
but shut down?
Even if you won't volunteer, how about posting ideas about how we could get
more members (without resorting to requiring membership for things that are
free now. Lets put those ideas in another item)? Anybody?

i really like the fact that you allow your "chairs" to pick members of their
committees. on m-nut the president appoints the chair and all the members.

(I haven't been on Grex very long, so I don't remember the last time Grex had
a committee. Is this the usual practice? Who cares. This makes sense.)

About the closest thing I can think of to the membership committee is teh
newsletter committee. I'll be happy to serve on this committee, but I really
think we need some "new blood" to head this up.

put the "membership chair" position of whatever up for auction in the
auction conf. Get a volunteer and raise money at the same time. :)

Re #11: that's not a specific policy - I mentioned it earlier as how many
volunteer organizations work. Usually the chair also just posts a general
invitation for committee members, or they may ask specific persons they
think could help the best. But it's up to the chair. On the other hand,
committee like nominations, finance, etc, are usually filled by the chair
or the board.

I like to be a Grex member, but I have some question to ask :
Based on your policy, I should pay the membership fee by my personal check.
The check has my phone No. and home address on it.
Will these informations be kept in strict confidence by Grex ? Since I am
a female person.

Yes, that information is kept confidential. We just want to have it in case
you start hacking into the Pentagon (since members get outgoing telnet), and
also since we are required to have a list of real people as voters.

I'll add that that information is kept by the treasurer - you may want to
get his FBI file.

information you send is not posted anywhere where anyone can see it.

Looking at File: " Aruba, aka Conger, Mark A." #123454321 It might be
advisable to fake the whole thing. He seems to be a liberal conservative
independent free-thinker loyalist who might send your name and address
to Reader's Digest but would refuse the kick-back?

ok. I have a request :
I want a receipt (If I mailed my check for being as a Grex member), and the
receipt should have the following persons' signature on it.
1) The owner of the Grex.
2) The treasurer of the Grex.
And also write some words like " We assure that the information you provided
to us will be kept in strict confidence".
