Agenda for 2/26/96 Board Meeting
|
Feb 18 16:38 UTC 1996 |
Here is the tentative agenda for the Grex board meeting Feb. 26, 1996.
Please make suggestions as to additions, changes, etc.
1. Initial Gavel Pounding - scott < 1 minute
2. Treasurer's Report - aruba 5 minutes
3. 501(c)3 Committee - aruba 5 minutes
4. Computer Rehabilitation Committee - rcurl 5 minutes
5. Publicity Committee - mta 5 minutes
6. Technical Committee - STeve 20 minutes
7. Newsletter Report - mta 5 minutes
10. Commercial Use of Grex - all 10 minutes
11. Communications Decency Act - all 20 minutes
12. New Business - all ???
13. Final Gavel Pounding - scott < 1 minute
The board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 pm, location
is the Integrated Technologies Institute (ITI), in the cafeteria. The
public is welcome.
Directions to ITI:
Take US-23 to the Washtenaw Ave. exit (exit 37B). This puts you on Washtenaw
Ave, going West. Turn right onto Huron Parkway. This winds and twists for
quite a while. Turn right on Hubbard, then make your first possible left into
ITI (which has a hard-to-read silver sign out front). Watch out for handicap
parking spaces when you park -- there are a lot of them. Inside ITI, go
straight back to the funky toys in the lobby. Turn left, and the cafeteria
is ahead and to the left.
On Huron Parkway, if you reach Plymouth Road, you've gone too far.
Another way to ITI is to take US-23 to the Plymouth Road exit. Go West on
Plymouth Rd, to Huron Parkway. Turn left onto Huron Parkway. Hubbard comes
up pretty quickly from that side of town; turn left onto Hubbard and then take
the first possible left to get to ITI.

You don't seriously think the CDA discussion can be confined to
20 minutes, do you? >8)
Thanks for putting the Commercial Use item in there.

This doesn't require board action, but I and others would like a
Grex Volunteers list (coop item 24) made available in menu, lynx and
bbs. Mentioning it here appears to be the best way to ask that
someone(s) make the additions.

It's been suggested that scg should be a "full" staffer, rather than just
having Dungeon acess for reboots. I believe that he has already been voted
such in order to have access, and staff has recommended that scg have full
access (a root account). Does this need any more Board discussion?

Is there a JCC sale coming up?

Yes there is, in late March. I received a notice in the mail just
a few days ago. Don't have it with me and so can't give the par-
ticulars. I'll be happy to arrange for table rental with the JCC
if the board authorizes participation, but won't be able to do
so for a few days after the meeting. If that's a concern, somebody
else might want to do it this time.

I'll be there (at the JCC) as a PR rep to try to get more local
users/members.

I don't think further discussion of scg is warranted.

There appears to be an impasse on the question of the contents of the login
screen in coop. I for one had hoped a consensus would form and that the fws
would respond to that. What I have heard is the suggestion that the board vote
on this question. While I think the board would prefer not to be the group
to solve the impasse, if there is no other choice, then we should do so and
move on.
In order for that to happen, this question should be on the agenda

I won't be able to attend the board meeting, so here are the
particulars on the JCC sale: It's on Sunday March 24, usual
location and hours. Table rental is $30 before March 4, $40
after March 4. (Doesn't say what the rental is *on* March 4.)
We rented two tables last time.
As in the past, if the board approves the expenditure, I'll
be happy to arrange for the table rental.

The question over the .login screen should absolutely NOT be on
the agenda. Valuable time at these meetings shouldnt be taken
up with stupid, trivial questions.
Also as a practical matter, this issue should be resolved among
the participants of THIS conf! It is not the board's place to be
involving itself in the internal matters of a particular conference. It
should be up to the members of each individual conf to resolve fw disputes
and other issues related to conference presentation.

I agree with you, kerouac, but the issue mostly has been resolved among the
participants in this conference. The problem is that while there's a clear
consensus, the people who should be acting on that are instead requesting
board action. We don't need to waste very much time on it. Just a simple
vote, and then move on.

I suggest not even dignifying it with a vote. Like all bad smells, it
will go away eventually.

TS, I think it is fairly clear that most people who participate in
this conference have negative feelings about the current login banner.
Some much smaller number are ambivalent over this, and I'll go so far
as to say that you and Nephi are the only two who *support* the long
login screen.
I think there is a pretty clear feeling here about this issue.
Also, I highly doubt that anyone "fed" scg anything. I can see
Steve listening to things, but I cannot see him as being gullable and
meekly swallowing something.
Would you please move the current login screen to a bulletin?

I didn't see the others comments about it before I made this comment
since I read coop backwards today.

Is there any way we can move the meeting time forward? I'm
worried that with so much to discuss, I'll either have to leave
the meeting early or be seriously late for work.

about getting our time at ITI opened sooner, etc...

For the record, I sent Grex's app & check to the JCC the day
after the board meeting. No trouble getting info, they have a
real person who answers the phone, knows things, and sends faxes
within a minute of their request. They'd never make it in the
computer business with an attitude like that!! :-)

Hey, didn't Scott promise that if elected chair of Grex's board he would use
obscure labels for the agenda items? These are numbered with sequential
numbers. Sounds like a campaign promise violation to me. Scandal scandal!
(Aren't y'all glad to have me back in town again? :) Don't answer that!)
