Grex Volunteers Mark Unseen   Feb 14 07:19 UTC 1996

I think it would help newcomers, and perhaps also be of interest to
oldcomers, if information about who "runs" Grex were more readily
available. Therefore I've edited /etc/aliases into some categories, as
shown below.

This list is also meant to be a "tip of the hat" to these volunteers, who
devote their time and effort to the operation and betterment of the
system.

Suggestions are of course very welcome for the form that "Grex Volunteers"
might take in the future. Any omissions were unintentional and will
be corrected.

This is a good move. This information should be available as a link or other
easily accessible method at all times. Thanks, rcurl.

That I recall I was never on the publicity team. My name should
probably come off. Thanks.

  OK--you're off that alias, Mary.

Did that come off the publicity mailing list?

The list is who are in the "publicity" alias, hence the mailing list.

"publicity" is a really ancient mail alias that, to my knowledge, has never
been used.

By the way -- interesting stuff, Rane -- thanks for posting it!

I think you're right about the publicity list, sigh.

So, I turned over a rock? ;-> Well, as I said, I entered this item
to initiate a regular (I hope) listing of Grex Volunteers. When it
gets sorted out, I'd suggest that it be accessible in lunx and menu.
One question, though: is it better to list Names, or ids? I chose
the latter as a) they're what's in /etc/aliases, and b) Names can be
poorer identifiers than ids, for some.

Oh, it's been used form time to time. I've used it. Problem is, I haven't
had the wherewithall to do a "Paper the Town" rally in some time. Maybe next
weekend...?

That's the idea for putting it in lynx and menu. I'm not sure what would
be the more exposed location in bbs, since bbs does not have an entry menu
page. I'm working on an update of the Grex Volunteers list, because I
found in /etc/group that the group list and the aliases list for some
functions do not always agree. Which one should be more accurate?

A review of /etc/group finds a few more volunteers with authority
to post to the motd but who are not listed above or not listed in
a relevant category (llanarth, llan, balance, rlawson); and some
in lynxadm: that should maybe be webmasters (?) (carl, kaplan, scg).

I think at this point someone - the officers or the board - should decide
if the Grex Volunteers list is sufficiently accurate and complete, and
have it placed where newusers (and users) can access it conveniently.

Hey!! I may be able to edit the motd but I resent the use of the word
"authority"!!! :)

carl, kaplan, and scg have all offered to help redesign Grex's web pages.
Group lynxadm ( a misnomer) permits that. I think the position is not
the same as webmaster. It's kind of like webworker. Anyway, all three
are no longer actively doing anything, but srw, robh, ajax are probably
the currently interested three. Though both robh and I have root,
so it is just a convenience for us.

Robh or I should update that lynxadm list.

I'd like to stay in the lynxadm group (or whatever its name should be). It's
been several months since I've done anything with it, but I am hoping to have
time to work on that sort of thing again sometime soon.

Sorry about "authority", Robert. I take that back. You are, instead,
a volunteer with perm :)

Steve, You should coordinate with me, robh, or ajax when you are interested in
helping. There's always a need, but if others are working in an area it's
possible to trip over each other.

It's fine with me to leave scg in lynxadm. I just though we had seen the last
of you.
