The system has been doing a lot of this in the last day or so. I'm hoping
that the last reboot fixed things.

Reminder: always log out (to the "login:" prompt) before hanging up the phone.

In theory, the window during which the modem is disconnected before Grex
logs you out should be very small. I suspect that when Grex is very, very
slow that window becomes big enough to ring a telephone through ...

Whoa! Does this mean someone else could ACCIDENTALLY appear
here as ME??

well, yes .... about twice as often as Ed McMahons's Publisher's
Clearing House Prize truck stops in +your+ driveway.

What i use is the word/comamnd exit until Grex disconnects.
it works RealFine (tm) at the login: prompt ....

But it's sufficient to wait until you get a login: prompt and then
initiate a disconnect. (What TS suggests is also correct - logging in
as exit initiates a disconnect - but at one point there was a tty line
on which that didn't work, I think.)

Selena, you connect to Grex over the internet connection, so this
problem shouldn't affect you. The problem is with Grex's dial-in
modems.

Re 7: Yup, "exit" probably won't make any of the 2400 baud modems
hang up the phone. It will work fine for the ones running at 9600 baud.
You can also type "hangup" at the "login:" prompt to hang up.

Re #6: considering the actual frequency, I'd say that it's actually a bit
closer to the chances of it pulling up in your neighborhood... *grin*

For people who like shorter commands than "hangup" and "exit", "bye" works
too.
