|
Jul 21 11:49 UTC 1995 |
Here's the tentative agenda for the 7/26/95 Grex Board of Directors Meeting.
Please yell if there are items on the list you want added/changed/deleted.
I think this may be missing some tabled items from last month's meeting.
14. Initial Gavel Banging - popcorn < 1 minute
18. Treasurer's Report - danr 5 minutes
23. 501(c)3 Committee Report - rcurl 5 minutes
28. Computer Rehabilitation Committee Report - rcurl 5 minutes
34. Publicity Committee Report - misti 5 minutes
42. Technical Committee Report - STeve 20 minutes
50. Verification Policy - Steve 20 minutes
59. Newsletter Report - rcurl 5 minutes
66. Grex Manual - danr 5 minutes
72. New Business - all Who Knows?
79. Final Gavel Banging - popcorn < 1 minute
The board meeting will be on Wednesday July 26 at 7pm in the food court in
the basement of the Michigan Union. The public is welcome.
(ps. I'll deliver homebaked brownies or some fresh fruit to the first person
to identify to me the reasoning behind the numbering scheme on this agenda,
and what's special about starting the sequence at 14 and ending at 79.)

Minutes after the hour of 7pm, with the 14 being for how late it will start
after it is supposed to :)

Successive approximations of the number of people in attendance?

Heh, in your dreams. Probably more like total accumulated seconds of
relative silence observed during the meeting. Phrase most often heard
at recent board meetings: "What?"

Nope. It's clearly the Subway stations for the AA 8th avenue local.
59 is Columbus Circle, by the way.

Good going, Steve! I figured New Yorkers were at a tremendous advantage
here. You get brownies or fruit (your choice).
Actually the AA doesn't stop at 18th street, and I think it differs
at one or two other stations. Those are really the stops for the 1 train.
(And the 9 train, too, but they added that after I moved to Michigan, so
I'm content to ignore it for most purposes.) 59th street is, indeed,
Columbus Circle, whether you're on the 1 train or the AA.
The challenge of figuring out what's special about 14th and 79th streets
is still open.

Stops you used to use, like home to school? That's a guess, of course, since
I know almost nothing about NY city (only been there twice in my life), except
that I'm picking up an enviable New York (Queens?) accent from a customer.

The "1" train... is that the broadway IRT? I am real familiar with the IRT
from a time when they weren't numbered. In fact I had seen that kind of
question asked before, so it was a bit of a no-brainer for me. It was
done with the Flushing IRT which goes...61 69 74 82 90 and the question
was "What comes Next". The answer... Junction Blvd.
I don't feel like I deserve the prize, how about if I share it around.

Re 6: Yup: school to home.
Re 7: Yup, the 1 train was once called the Broadway IRT Local.
Any idea what year they numbered it? In my lifetime, I can't remember
the transit authority calling it anything other than "the 1 train",
though I'm familiar with that line as "the IRT" because my Mom knows
it by that name, the same as she knows "Avenue Of The Americas" as
Sixth Avenue.
Would you prefer fruit or brownies?

Valerie, was the UPS discussed last month? I saw that it was on the
agenda, but never heard any results. I did get mail from mju about this
recently, asking for some details I have not yet been able to provide.
Just wondering what's up...

As I recall, John, we have funds to pay for it. Probably there was no board
action because the board was waiting for staffers to evaluate it. I think the
sense of the board is to approve this purchase, providing that the UPS
functions correctly. I don't know what's holding that up, though.
there's nothing in the minutes from last month about this, perhaps we
should get an agenda item this month to cut a check for Arbornet for it.
(Fruit, Valerie, and like I said - it's for everyone)

I'm not sure, but I think we agreed that, since $200 of the UPS is
already paid for, the last $50 can come out of the staff discretionary
budget, without a board action needed. Most likely, Steve Andre still
says he's working on it.
