Wanted: Volunteer to maintain the bbs list in the menu system Mark Unseen   Jun 20 12:49 UTC 1995

Grex's menu system arrived with a list of local bbses. The list
was old when the menus arrived, and it's even older now that the
menu system has been here for a few years. Does anybody know where
to get a more current list of local bbses? Would you be interested
in maintaining the list in the menu system, updating it a few times
a year as the new lists come out?

If so, please volunteer here. Thanks!

What list, and where is it? I can update it, certainly. as for maintaining
it, I dunno. I don't know if Horst Mann is going to continue his 313 list
since the area code split. he might, since he renamed the list SEM (SouthEast
Michigan) but if I see updated lists elsewhere, I'd be able to keep the grex
list up to date that way pretty easily, I would think.

The most recent Horst Mann, er, SEM listing I've seen is from
last October. I've got a copy here, it would be easy enough to
extract a few numbers. What kinds of boards would we
want to list?

BTW: When I ran lynx here & went to use the "tons of web sites" or
whatever-it-is entry, I found it was a pointer to a new address. Possibly
the webmeisters might want to change Grex's entries to point to the new
address directly.

Look in the files in the directory /usr/local/lib/menus/protos.

Thanks Dave!
BTW: I think the list in there *is* the Horst Mann list.

Ok, I've got the update. it is the SEM-1 list, the successor to the 313 bbs
list, and is dated October, 1994, as robh mentioned.

The only problem is, it has extra "returns" in it, as it's a dos-formatted
text file, and I don't know how to convert text files easily between the two
formats. it looked fine under "less" though.

the file is called /home/dam/bbslist.

Oh, I just looked, and the existing bbslist file also has CR/LF instead of
just LF, so I guess it probably doesn't matter that much...

Re #3 - Thanks for noticing the URL was out of date, Dave.
I updated it to point to the new "Ton of web sites" page at Netgen.
I think that site has a new look to it, though, and I'm, not sure it's
as useful as it used to be.

To convert the CR/LF to LF, try flip -u bbslist. flip worked last
time I used it, but it was a while ago.

Dave (Martinelli) -- I've chown'd the directory /usr/local/lib/menus/protos
and all its contents to you, so you can rearrange the bbs lists at will.
(You can get to what the menu users see by running the "menu" menuing system,
and choosing "other menus" and "bbs lists". If the key to the Horst Mann
list has changed, you may need to update several of the files in that
directory).
Thanks again for doing this!

another easy way to convert text files is with the program DOS2UNIX
I have it if you need it.. e-mail me and i'll upload it for you.

the flip program is here, although it does not have a man page. It does have
built-in help, though.

I put in the SEM1 files, and they seem to be accessible.

that menu program seems a little rough around the edges, but I suppose that
is another topic, and it's better than nothing...
