The AOL->Grex mail problem
|
Feb 5 08:04 UTC 1996 |
As people who read the "system problems" item in Agora know, there's
been a problem reliably receiving mail on Grex from AOL. The problem
sounds like it's mostly on AOL's end of things. But can anything be
done on Grex to accomodate their difficulty sending mail? I think
receiving AOL mail is important in making Grex as a good place for
Internet e-mail, which has traditionally been a draw for local users.
I'm hoping this item will spur some discussion and move it from the
back burner a little closer to the front. (It may already be there,
but I haven't seen much public discussion regarding this).

I predict it will not be fixed until Grex recognizes it as a Grex problem.

That's going to be rather hard to do, given how many other systems
are having this problem receiving AOL mail as well.

My solution to the grex <-> aol mail problem worked great, and I'd reccomend
it for everyone. The two people I know on AOL got accounts with local ISPs.
Not only can they now reliably exchange mail with me on grex, but they can
also telnet to grex and join conferences and they can even write me (and
eachother) without paying by the minute after a few hours per month like AOL
does.
Support local systems. Dump AOL!
