Don't worry, Rob. I'm sure you'll do *something* unexpected *sometime*
during your tenure on the board.

Congratulations Rob, Scott, Mark and Misti!
Hmmm...say, do the non-members want a board, too? :)

Congrats to the winners, condolences to the losers.

I want to know who is going to be the next treasurer?

response 9 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 17 02:28 UTC 1995

So do I. It would look silly for me to mail my money for January 1996 to danr
if he is indeed stepping down as treasurer, not to mention delays and
confusion as to the status of my membership and Internet access.

Future candidates should take a lesson from Rob: keeping your helper flag
on is a good campaign strategy.

Not to mention a very very good thing to do in general.

I'd like to apply for the position of Treasurer.

response 13 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 17 16:02 UTC 1995

Since my address has been pretty well distributed, I think I'll be receiving
dues and passing them on to the next treasurer for quite a while.

Thanks for the vote, everyone. I'll see how well I can help run the fine
organization we have developed. My first act will be to safeguard Grex's
finances in a remote and much safer island location. ;) ;) ;)

I was struck by how few votes were spent. Not voters, but votes.
Everyone had the opportunity to vote for 4 candidates but few
probably did with the average coming out to 2.34 per voter.
I wonder what that means.

response 16 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 17 19:00 UTC 1995

I think it may mean that many voters felt they didn't know most of the
candidates from Adam. We have grown a little cliquish, I fear.

response 17 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 17 20:06 UTC 1995

A common reason for not voting for all "slots" is to increase the weight
of your vote for your favorite candidates. The voters had the
statements and survey answers, of course, so it wasn't exactly that
they didn't know them from Adam - though they may not have known them
personally. The latter may indicate cliquishness.

In regard to the Grex address - Dan is the corporations resident agent
and his address is the registered address. If he agrees, his address
could be in effect the official address of Grex. He could even be
authorized to deposit all checks received, automatically. That would
also be the best practice, even if money has to be refunded, in order
to have a record of all transactions. [Our home is the registered
address for a corporation, and that is what is done with all checks
received - with a record of the checks, and xerox copies, being sent
to the Treasurer.]

I don't think we've become cliquish; I think most members don't really care
who is on the board.

Future candidates should know robh stands for what ?
Require Board of directors Heavily.
you want to be a candidate ? please choose a "GOOD" login name.
Require Obviously Board of directors Heavily. :-)

response 20 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 18 02:00 UTC 1995

I think Dan is quite right; most people don't care. Thats why I
voted for the changes to the bylaws that got rid the the quota for
voting. We'd have failed again, under those rules. ...And I can
think of three other clubs around Ann Arbor that had elections that
failed due to their lack of voters not getting to their quotas too.
Seems to be happening a lot. I wonder how much things like job stress
contribute to this?

Dan, are you willing to be a mail drop for Cyberspace Communications
for a "long time", ie the forseeable future? If you were willing to do
that, then your place would make a fine mail address. But if not, thats
OK--you've done a *wonerful* job and I appreciate that.
If your place isn't good for this, then I wonder if it's time to
get a Post Office Box and use that for everything.
(this should probably go into a different item. I just realized
that.)

response 21 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 18 10:50 UTC 1995

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong here, I thought the "quota" that was recently
abolished, only applied to voting on bylaws changes. Not general election
voting of officers.

robh
response 22 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 18 11:34 UTC 1995

Nope, it applies to officer elections as well. In fact, it was
last year's abortive officer election that prompted srw to
propose the amendment.
danr
response 23 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 19 01:47 UTC 1995

To tell you the truth, I think it would be best for the next treasurer
to widely disperse his or her address. Unless, he or she didn't want
it to be well-known and could put up with checking a PO box every couple
of days.

response 24 of 37: Mark Unseen   Dec 19 02:44 UTC 1995

If Exon passes, and Grex becomes in effect an illegal board operating
in open defiance of new laws, a P.O. Box that can be changed periodically
is a very good idea. May have to become as discreet as possible, to
the point of moving Grex to a new location and having said location
whereabouts classified, not revealed on-line in any fashion, and known
only to staff.
If Grex is discreet about it and goes about its business quietly, it
could possibly exsist in violation of any new laws for a long period of
time. Its not as though there wont be other renegade boards out there.
Its better for Grex to become an underground board rather than for
Grex to submit itself to regulation!
