How many people show up for these? I could probably host it (it might
inspire me to pack up the last of those boxes), but I've only got seating
from maybe 8 people. Lots of carpet sitting space though.

Past discussions have indicated the following criteria are pretty
critical: having food for sale, no smoking, no cats, and no smoking
cats (but you can bring pre-smoked cats). If you're willing to
put price tags on the things in your fridge, it might work :-).

"No food" doesn't bother me any -- never has, but we have always met in a
restaurant, historically. I'm willing to break with that.
I personally think restaurants are not conducive to conducting business.
(some disagree, I know)

Didn't know you did restaurants. I'm cat-less and smoke-less, I can stock
up on beverages, and pizza can be ordered. On the other hand, people might
be more comfortable dropping in on a meeting in a restaurant than a meeting
in an apartment.
If you'd prefer to stick to a restaurant, I'd not only not be offended, I'd
be slightly relieved.

I don't need a restaurant - in fact, like Steve, I would prefer to not
meet in a restaurant. There are plenty of times and places to eat - many
fewer for doing the grex.

As long as there's food there, I don't care if it's a reastaurant or not, so
Jan's proposal would be fine with me. I share the concern, though, about
people being nervous to drop in on a meeting at an apartment.

re #2 - previosly smoking cats, now reformed would be ok, provided they
do not impose their beliefs on others, I presume? I am somewhat confused
by the message -- cats smoking in the refrigerator are free, but smoked
cat is for sale, but stored in the same device? Yeah, sure. You are
gonna tell me it "tastes like chicken!" Sure, rob. I'll stick to
smoked Cobia.

New Business is like Pandora's Box. No one will have done much about
anything that's *on* the agenda - and then we open New Business.

Re #7 re #2: As long as the previously smoked cats aren't currently
smoking, its fine with me. Brings a whole new meaning to "Honey, put the
cat out, will you?".
The biggest problem I'd have with meeting in someones house would
be the fact that others, who are curious about how Grex runs its
mettings might not be so willing to come to a meeting if they were
held in a private place.
I'm on the other side from Rane and Steve; generally I'm disorganized
enough such that being bale to eat during the meeting means I can eat,
and shut my stomach up. Congratulation to those who run their lives
better than I do mine!
However, a good place does take precedence over food (barely), so I'm
willing to try other places.

I'd be just as happy to meet elsehwere than in a restaurant, but I share
the concerns about scaring off new people if we met in somebody's
apartment. Also, if Jan's apartment can only hold about 8 people, I
think that's too small. There are 7 directors, plus usually something
between 2 and 7 onlookers.
Has anybody been by the basement of the Union on a weekday evening
recently? Is it true that it's like a zoo there, or did it seem like
maybe it could be an OK place to meet?

Actually, JAn said that there were only enough CHAIRS for 8 ppl; there is
supposedly a great deal of carpeted (presumably floor) seating. :-)

Most of my experience with similar volunteer organizations like Grex
is that they *always* meet in members' homes. I could not have imagined
that anyone would be scared off by this, never having heard of such a
thing (until the above). There are a few things to do, though: the
hosts (gender neutral...) should not feel obligated to put out more
than snack food, and a hat should always be passed to cover the cost
of even that. (And whatever the hosts think is excessive of the donations,
get donated to the organization.)

Regarding the JCC sale: I received an announcement from the JCC a few
days ago. Normally I wait until the Board approves participation in
the next sale before I spend the money to rent a table. I was planning
to do so this time as well, especially in few of the fact that at the
last meeting at which the JCC sales were discussed, there was a
division of opinion on the Board as to whether continued participation
by Grex was worthwhile.
However, time is growing short--the next sale is October 8, and
that's coming up pretty soon. Could I get a sense from Board members
whether they favor participating in this one? If a majority does,
I'll go ahead and rent a table as soon as possible, even though we
haven't met to approve the expenditure officially.

I had additional JCC suggestions, but entered them as item 103; moving
JCC discussion there could help keep it more organized.

Re meeting place: I'm talking to someone at ITI about possibly meeting
there this month. I'll know more tomorrow.
Re JCC: I'm usually the biggest JCC naysayer, and I've already been
talked into supporting Grex's participation in the upcoming one. <sigh>

Yay -- our patron saint at ITI got us meeting space! This month we will
be meeting at ITI (the Industrial Technology Institute). To get there,
take Huron Parkway to Hubbard. Go East on Hubbard. Your first possible
left is ITI. It has a shiny metal sign that can be very hard to read.
We'll be meeting in the cafeteria. To get there, go in the front door and
turn left at the toys in the lobby. The cafeteria is just ahead and to your
left. We haven't yet figured out how to get people into the building.
Note that there's no food service in the cafeteria when we'll be there, so
if you want to eat at the meeting, you should bring your own food with you.
The meeting is this Wednesday at 7pm.

I regret not being able to attend this one, as I had not intended
to until just a minute ago, and tonight is booked solid. Perhaps,
in the future, you wouldn't mind posting the best expressway exit to get
off at, in order to get to Huron Parkway..

In case anyone else is poring over maps to avoid asking that question:
Coming from the north, exit US-23 at the Plymouth Road exit; turn west
and then turn south (left) on Huron Parkway.
From the south, exit US-23 at Geddes; turn west and then turn north (right)
on Huron Parkway. (Huron Parkway & Geddes is where Gallup Park is (the
location of the Grex walks).)

Is ITI a possible permanent meeting place, or was this just a one-
time thing? I did appreciate the quiet and wouldn't mind continuing
there if we can.
