Fair Witnesses Needed Mark Unseen   Sep 18 01:57 UTC 1994

I've finally gone through and come up with the list of conferences without
fair witnesses. I should note that some of these decisions were rather
subjective in cases where the fw still had an account but hadn't logged in
in a while. I also based this only on the fw's last login date, and
not on the last time they have been in the conference, so there are
probably more conference sthat are effectively without a fair witness. Here's
what I came up with. Does anybody want to fw any of these conferences?

cars
hardware
micros
melvin
pseudo

(I really expected there to be more)
110 responses total.

not to short-change the validity of Steve's request or anything, but
do these conferences (or any others, FTM) actually need an "active"
FW?

TS, you were there not more than a WEEK ago... ;)

(nice discussion of phones, BTW. I'll have to read it sometime.)

TS, the "hardware" conf is where we've been talking about phones for
the last month. But I agree, confs like hardware get so little traffic
they probably don't need an FW.

Think of it as the difference between needing a referee for a professional
basketball game, and 3 guys getting together to shoot some hoops at
the local park.

Jep still logs in regularly. I don't think micros belongs on that list.

Oh -- and thanks *much* for taking the time to compile the list!!!

I was basing that on jep not having logged in in almost a month, but
whether to put micros on the list seemed like a close call to me.

Well, his membership hasn't expired yet...

I spotted him at yesterday's Picofest. He mentioned that he'd just
gotten back from a vacation. This might explain his absence from Grex....

re #3 - I was questioning the inclusion of hardware.cf in the "nearly
defunct" list, or whatever it called. Yes, I know that's where the
phones discussion is. And several other +very+ important discussions
as well.

hardware.cf might not get a daily dose of 8.67 ga-zillion responses, but,
when something +starts+ in hardware, it gets rung out six ways from Sunday.

It's a sporadic, VeryBusy (tm) conference. There ought to be at least
a "fw of record" for it, someone who usually logs approximatley once
a week at least.

Do I hear you volunteering? <nudge nudge> I'd like to see people
adopt these orphaned conferences and keep 'em going.

I'd be willing to be a fw for hardware. My platform statement is, "I will
let it run just like it is now."

Mostly it isn't.

response 14 of 110: Mark Unseen   Sep 19 14:57 UTC 1994

Right. It doesn't need any "running". It is an accumulation of information
about a marvelous variety of hardware, which can be searched, or used
for inquiries. And is. But maybe something should be linked there from
agora once in a while, so a fw is desirable.

Okey dokey, rcurl is now a hardware fair witness. Rane - you might
want to change the login screen for the conf: it still lists fes as
the fw.

re #10: it was a list of conferences _sans_ FWs, not activity, hence
         my comment.

Rialto's fw is glenda, who last logged in only a mere eleven days ago.
