Questions for members who didn't vote. Mark Unseen   Dec 25 15:02 UTC 1994

There are a few people who have indicated they have some questions for the
membership which should be asked so we can formulate an opinion on the
elimination of quorums (based on knowledge). What are your questions that
need answering? For those of you who are good at consiceness, can you help
frame those questions in an acceptable manner?

To keep it simple, should we use multiple choice and true/false questions?

Question: Did Grex adaquately announce the election? Y or N
Question: Did you know a quorum of ___% was needed? Y or N
Question: Would knowing a quorum was needed have changed the way you voted or
didn't vote? Y or N Question: Do log onto Grex, A) at least 3
times a week B) once a week C)
                             C) everyother week D) once a month or less ?

I'd prefer a more open-ended phrasing of the last question, i.e.
"How often do you sign on to Grex? _________________" We can
always categorize it ourselves, later.

Other than that, it looks good to me. Now we'll see if anyone
who didn't vote actually feels like responding to this. 1/2 >8)

I didn't vote, am not a member at the moment, and figure I'll answer anyhow.
Grex adaquately announced the election to people who use Grex.
Unfortunately not all members use Grex. Grex needs to find a way to
guarentee voting. You can't guarentee much of anything when several
members don't even USE Grex any more.
I knew a quorum was needed. That's all I knew. No %s.
I don't log onto Grex, I'm a function of Grex. :)

Grex "made you what your are today", gerund? Er..sorry for the aside.
I think it would be useful to circulate this questionnaire. It should
probably have a preamble, explaining that as a result of the failure of
the election to make a quorum, these questions are being asked to see
if there are better ways to communicate, and obtain member participation
(etc). Ask also if the member "reads the coop conference regularly".
I'd suggest getting this questionnaire distributed very quickly, not
only for the inate interst of the answers, but it will help publicize
that another election is going to be held.

Thanks for the input, gerund. When I started reading the coop, that is
when I decided to get involved with my opinions and $. Had I known what I
know now, I would have joined sooner. I didn't mainly becasue I am a newbie
and I was intimidated by the vastness of the BBS. So I just used Grex
for a backup mailbox while I worked out of Traverse City.

1. Y 2. Y
3. I guess not, or I would have voted. I intended to, but was so swamped
with other things that suddenly the time limit was over.
4. at least 4 times per week, and usually daily except when I'm with my
fiance in Youngstown, OH. I wish I knew how to find out where to dial
there to get into the internet so I could get to grex. email me if you
have any ideas. Youngstown State University is probably my best bet.

I am usually swamped just barely keeping up with agora, and rarely make it to
coop. I basically know how to telnet but haven't tried it yet, and don't
know if I need the IP address of where I'm telnetting to, or if the symbolic
name is enough ... etc. It's sort of like the first time I got on the air
with ham radio ... easy to be reluctant.

So anyway, I feel bad that I didn't vote, but agree that a new definition of
quorum may be needed. Either a different absolute percentage, or perhaps a
percentage of the total votes ???

The only reason I didn't vote was because at the time, I wasn't a member,
but now I am, and now I will vote.

I am not a member either, but I think I'll also respond, to help your info-
gathering. 1 I'm not sure; I wouldn't have been paying attn, as I couldn't
vote, and was not an active coop reader at the time. I think it was one of
the announcements that the vote had failed that alerted me to coop's existence.
2 After I read the bylaws I did; I remember thinking that some quorums were
awfully high, but that some sort of quorum was reasonable. 3 N/A. 4 I sign
on nearly daily, except during VaTech breaks (e.g., 12/15/94-1/15/95).
