Agenda Items for the 3/22/95 Board of Directors Meeting Mark Unseen   Mar 7 16:46 UTC 1995

The next meeting of the Board of Directors is scheduled for Wednesday
March 22, 7pm, at a location to be announced. (The board is scheduled
to meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month at least 'til the end of the
school term.) I'm announcing the meeting now, even though it's early,
so Grex has a single coherent place to make notes about upcoming agenda
items.

On the agenda so far:

1) The usual various committee reports (techincal committee, treasurer's
report, 501(c)3 committee, etc.).

2) Things that were tabled at the last meeting. I'll look those up and
enter them in this item. Off the top of my head, I remember two of these:
John Remmers was going to re-read the item about verifying users for usenet
posting privilages; and the board was going to discuss whether or not it's
a good idea to have guest accounts.

3) New business: Selecting a co-op fair witness (or two) to replace
chelsea. Nominees so far are sidhe, nephi, and eeyore.

4) There are some budget proposals that came out of Sunday's plan-the-
budget meeting.

Please enter any additional agenda items here.

Do you have an Ann Arbor restuarant that you're not particularly fond of?
Got food poisoning? Bad service? Incorrect bill? Lousy food?

Then nominate them as the location of the next Grex board meeting and we'll
see if we can go 2 for 2!

Clarification re agenda item #2: By "guest account" is meant a special
account that a person could log into to have a look at the system before
deciding whether or not to create a regular account.

Re response #1: Heh heh heh. The Washington Street Station sure didn't
last long after the Grex Board descended on it...

Re 1: I'm thinking the basement of the Union might work for board meetings.
The food there isn't good, but they have lots of space and they're
definitely not going to care if people show up and don't buy food.
They've got non-smoking areas that really aren't smokey.
And food (though not great food) is available for folks who are hungry.

I need to check how late they're open in the evenings.

Does this sound like an option?

Good one Greg--I had coke in my mouth again, as I read your response.
It wasn't quite as good at the Grex orchestra, but pretty close...

Whats wrong with Zingerman's? Isn't in our bylaws that we have to
meet there?

I was going to ask that too. I believe the 4th Wednesday was picked
because that wednesday was also free at Zing's in addition to being the
best for all the board memeber's schedules.
It doesn't hurt to arrange an *alternate* in case of problems, but I
wasn't aware anybody had a particular problem with Zings.

I have an intermittent problem with Zings: Noise from other tables makes
it difficult for me to hear, occasionally. I don't know what the noise
level in the Union is like.

Ok, thats a good reason. I've had that too, at times. I've been in
the Union psuedo-food area for meetings; its ranged from good to just as
bad as the worst of Zingerman's.

Come on, folks, I'm dying to know - what was discussed at the
Sunday budget meeting?

The Union's been pretty crowded the times I've been there, but it's been a
while.

Rob, I think we're making an item to talk about it. But first all
the details have to be written down.

Ja, srw entered it in another item.

Re meeting space: I have the same problem as John, where it's hard
to hear the other people in the meeting, hard for me to be heard,
and hard to concentrate with the loud distractions from the other tables.

I like Zingerman's. I'll admit the noise level is a disadvantage,
but I do not like places with lousy food. The Union basement matches
that criterion for me. I won't insist, though, but I will vote for Zings.

response 14 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 8 13:07 UTC 1995

If the Union has a noise problem, I'll also vote for Zings. I think we
should consider finding a real meeting room, though, that we'd have all
to ourselves. Valerie, I seem to recall that you looked into that at
one point.

The ARROW (ham radiio club) has been meeting in a classroom at Clague
Middle School. No food; no tables (just chair-desks); quiet and smoke-free.
I'll ask how its arranged.

You could order out?

response 18 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 8 18:46 UTC 1995

ummm...much as i would love to come to the meeting, i cannot, due to the
fact that i have to earn money...i work every tuesday and wednes day nights.
if the meeting is going to decide the fw, then maybe is shouldn't be in the
running.

response 19 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 8 22:48 UTC 1995

Actually, the other candidates are really unlikely to be at the meeting
too. I wouldn't recommend dropping out of the running just because you
can't be at the meeting.

response 20 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 9 03:42 UTC 1995

I'd be very against having the meetings somewhere without food. I need to
eat.

Steve (G) - Would you be able to buy a sandwich on the way over to the
meeting?
eeyore
response 23 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 9 14:25 UTC 1995

why not just order a few pizzas ?
sidhe
response 24 of 81: Mark Unseen   Mar 9 19:50 UTC 1995

is the dungeon too small, if you are going to order a deliverable
food?
Oh, and don't fret, eeyore. I would love to attend, but, alas, distance
and available time do not permit. <bows to eeyore>
