Schedule and Tentative Agenda for the February Board Meeting (2/15)
|
Feb 7 02:07 UTC 1995 |
The February meeting of the Cyberspace Communications Board is scheduled to
take place on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:00 PM. Our normal meeting
place, Zingerman's Next Door (upstairs), is in use at that time, so we are
looking for an alternative site. As always, the general public is invited.
Tentative agenda for the 2/15/95 board of directors meeting:
Initializing gavel - srw - less than 1 minute
1. Welcome new and returning board members 1 minute
2. Election of officers for 1995 15 minutes
3. Treasurer's report - danr - 5 minutes
4. 501c3 Committee report - rcurl 5 minutes
5. Computer Rehabilitation committee - rcurl - 5 minutes
6. Publicity committee - mta ?? 5 minutes
7. Technical committee report -
steve,popcorn,mdw,srw,gregc 30 minutes
8. Verification for Usenet use - chelsea 10 minutes
9. HVCN followup discussion - danr, scg, srw 5 minutes
a. Dungeon related expenses - mostly to Gregc 10 minutes
b. Registered Agent - danr 5 minutes
c. New business - 5 minutes
Terminating gavel - chair - less than 1 minute
I retired the Dungeon item and Public Access Terminal item.
Please post other things that you think should be included.
As always I am sure there are things I have left out.
Also we have the question of the venue, which would seem appropriate to
discuss here. AACS WinSIG is meeting at ZND(U), so where should we meet?
Last time, we met at Amer's on State Street. I found the air breathable
down in the non-smoking section where we met, but it was an annoying
atmosphere to go through to get there. One person has refused to meet
there for this reason, and more than one other has shared my distaste
for the upstairs smoke. Has anyone got any bright ideas for an alternative?

I can contact the People's Food Coop and the ICC to see if either of
their meeting spaces is free that evening.

I'd like to get some kind of planning/budgeting/etc thing going.
I'm not too sure of the details at this point, other than that Grex
definitely could use some more budgeting and growth planning.

(For the record, it is a "resident agent" at a "registered office",
despite my file of the state law being named /u/rcurl/registered.agent.)

Regarding agenda item #8 on Usenet verification - I'm not sure I'll be
able to make the Board meeting. Also, last I looked the whole verification
thing had taken a turn in a direction I really can't support nor do I have
the desire to enter the debate. So maybe someone else would like to get
up to speed on Co-op item #26, response #74 an onward, and escort Grex to
a verification policy?

I have duly noted the change to "resident agent". I have also removed
Chelsea's name from the verification item.

I'd like to have a slot for considering a motion to create the Grex

Another agenda item: Liaison with ICNet. I'd like to bow out --
most of the need for communication with ICNet seems to be over
technical issues regarding the link, so I think it would make more
sense for the liaison person to be one of the people who is
directly involved with link maintenance.

I called the People's Food Coop to see if we could use their meeting
space. They said to talk to Carol on Monday (she's not in today).
(She's the general manager). Then I called the ICC to see if we could
use their meeting space. We would need a letter from their education
committee, which meets weekly on Wednesdays, plus a refundable $25
deposit, to meet there. This might be a possibility for future months,
but not this month.
Would it make sense to choose a big, not-too-busy, local restaurant
that's walking distance from campus and hold the meeting there?
The Great Wall could work, or Shaharayar (which is open 'til 11pm every
day). Should we ask first, before meeting there, or just show up?
I'd like to ask permission first, but I hesitate because I think it
could be difficult to communicate with non-native speakers of English
at these places.
Any thoughts? I think Monday is too late for a decision; would like
to have a place selected before then.

Semislug always meets in the dining room of Washington street station of
Thursdays. The room is almost *always* empty. True we ussually don
't get there until after 9:00pm, but I would imagine that it's not too
busy earlier either. The room is large and quiet. We ussually pull alot
of tables together and it's not uncommon to have 15-20 people there.
We *would* have to buy food and drinks though, but I don't think they'd
mind us having a meeting.

ANy of these places are OK with me. If people are going to order food,
I'll bet no advance warning is needed. Otherwise, I dunno.

If you can go without food, I think the Public Library is amenable to
meetings.

I am backing away from 14 now. I don't think restaurants with regular
waitservice would be pleased if we hogged their tables for so long,
even if we did order food.
The library requires that the meeting finish up around 8:45 --
We are usually still going strong at that point.

Rob and I had dinner at Shaharayar last night, and I asked if it would
be OK for us to meet there on Thursday. They said it would be fine.
I talked to Abraham; he said to call ahead to remind him. I said
there would be about 12 people in our group.

That sounds good to me. I would recommend that you let them know that
it will be on Wednesday, not Thursday. They offer some less expensive
items there for those who don't want to order a full dinner.
It probably won't even be a problem if a few people don't order at all,
as long as they get some business out of the meeting.
Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

If the restaurant is amenable, it sounds good to me.
Another agenda item: JCC Sale. I received a mailing from them -- the
next one is on March 26.

Re #16: Srw
Semislug ussually takes up space in Washington street station for over
4 hours. From about 9-10 ish until they throw us out at 2:00am. That
part of the restaurant is *always* empty, so they really don't seem to
care. Now, I havn't been in there earlier. Maybe they have a bustling
dinner crowd at 7:00pm and it would be a problem, but I get the impression
that their weekday business is fairly slow.

I'd vote for Shaharayar. It would give me a chance to sample their food
and chances are that it closes earlier than Washington St. I *don't*
want the board meeting to last until 2 am. :-)

Re 19: oops... actually, I did say Wednesday (not Thursday) when I talked
to Abraham.
Rob said to me that it might feel weird to Shaharayar's other customers
to have us holding a board meeting there. I think the Washington Street
Station might be more private. Or, if we can wait 'til tomorrow morning
for a final decision, I can contact the PFC then to find out about their
meeting space, which I think is the best option left.

All of those options seem OK to me. I can wait until tomorrow to decide.
Personally I prefer Shahrayar's food to Washington St., but Rob's
comment rings true to me as well.
