It's the Time of the Season... Mark Unseen   May 23 16:26 UTC 1994

Some goods and services are seasonal in nature. That is to say, their
prices, availability, and/or features may vary with the season of the
year. What are your experiences with "the best time to buy"?

Well, it's the Christmas shopping season already! Does anyone
have any tips for gift buying at this time of year?

Yes. Don't spend all your money in one place. (I forget why.)

When you give one-place-purchased gifts to a room full of relatives,
it's pretty obvious that you didn't put enough "effort" into shopping
and getting "just the right gift" for each person, therefore you don't
care... Or so it seems to my relatives

I think its more important to taylor each gift to the individual recipient
than where you buy it. I could buy all my gifts at LL Bean and probably
make everyone I know happy.

I have noticed that the clothing catalogs have a lot of sales after Christmas,
down to sometimes half price. Inventory sales at local stores are some time
soon after (before New Year's?). For bargains, you and your friends could
all agree on gift certificates that could be used on sale items. We bought
most of our vegetables in the fall and froze them, we overdid it I think.
I stock up on clothing at the annual Kiwanis sale (actually I get more of it
in their weekly throw-away bin). Rents may go down a bit after Sept. 1, but
there is the problem of what to do in the meantime. Tent?

Also, when I've looked for housing just after September First, I've found my
choices to be pretty limited.

I had quite a good selection of cheap and nice places in November, when a few
people had left for some reason.

With the size cloting I wear, I *never* have a good selection! It gets
worse when the stores have sales.

Klaus, what size would you like? We get all sorts of stuff passed along
to us in all different sizes, and if you are not fussy about wearing
the latest fashions we can supply you, particularly with slightly
(visibly) worn things to work in.
