Big Screen Spawn Mark Unseen   Jul 28 03:54 UTC 1997

Okay, I'm entering this a little early, but not by much. Talk about Spawn
the movie here... reviews, notes, suggestions. Mostly after you've seen the
movie.

I loved the trailers to the movie. Go to Vault of Midnight to see the movie
trailers (if they haven't wore out the tape already).

to my zipdisk and can see it when ever I want :P That adress is (as if I need
to tell you) www.spawn.com

Saw the movie this evening (thursday). The crowd was slightly rowdy, which
made things interesting. John was terrific as Clown, he had some great
one-liners. Michael Jai White's part seemed to consist almost entirely of
one-liners, howeve,r which was a bit disappointing. Martin Sheen did a fine
job as Wynn, and the resemblance to his son was really apparent in some
scenes.

The directing wasn't bad for a first-timer, but it wasn't spectacular. I
wasn't expecting a Steven Spielberg quality job or anything, though. It fit
the bill nicely. The plot featured several changes from the comics, but was
still easily recognizeable. It went by a bit quick and was somewhat tamer
than the comic as well, though.

The special effects, for the most part, were incredible. I had a little
trouble believing some of the effects in Hell, but everything on earth was
terrific, particularly the Violator and the cape, which was underused.
Unfotunately, the effects were by far the best part of the film. It was good,
but far from great. Hopefully New Line will pick up a sequel or two, though,
since it has plenty of potential for such usage.

Upon seeing it a second time, I've continued to notice that the dialogue was
less than satisfactory, particularly for Al. I've also decided that I don't
like the movie version of Cog, too many things wrong with him.

The movie basically sucked, although it had a few humourous moments.
Strangely enough, it WAS enough to make me decide to check out the book.

(the animated series isn't anything like the comic... what's the
comic like these days? I dropped it somewhere around #32.)

I have since read the first year and a half of Spawn. It's not terrible but
a lot of better comics have come out since.
