Fair-witness volunteers needed! Mark Unseen   Feb 7 19:39 UTC 1997

The conference has been fairly slow of late, and I feel that
I'm not the best choice to remain f-w here, since I haven't had the
time to read comics lately.  (Last year I had time, but no money;
see how much my life has changed? >8) I know we have some interested
folks out there, so this item is to take volunteers to replace me
as fair witness of the Comics conference.
34 responses total.

I would like to get a chance since I'm on here all the time. Of course I'm
going to have to fight Luke for it. I would reeeeeally like it though. Pick
me!

Actually, I haven't been keeping up much with this conf either, i would like
to step down also, i think bio and bpez would be our best bets for fw-s tho!

I think this conf ought to be merged with the Fantasy conf. Fantasy hasnt had
a new item since last October. This one isnt much more active. Combining
the two confs could make a stronger one:

"The Fantasy and Graphic Arts Conference"

you know rich, you may have a point. Although, I disagree with you. If you
read item 2 in this confer, most of us agree that Magic, Roleplaying,
Baseball Cards, and all that don't belong in a comicbook shop. I don't really
think it belongs in this confer. I know this confer is slow, but I think there
are better ways to get more people. I for one am going to mail the staff for
an announcement...

I have added more items in hope to getting more active. I want to know what
other things would people want to talk about on this confer. If we broaden
our subjects we might get more people. You might say be joining the fanasty
confer and the comic confer that would be diversitize the subjects so we'll
get more readers. I still stand by my opinion that we should keep them apart.

I agree that we should keep them apart, if at least to avoid a debate on
how good Stephen Donaldson or Piers Anthony are. I want to discuss comics,
not fantasy novels. If you want to discuss Myhtography, Hall of Heroes,
The Books of Magic, or The Book of Ballads and Sagas, that's fine. They`re
fantasy comics.

As for items I would like to see, how about an independent comics item or
comic-related action figure item. With the growth of both in recent
months, I think both topics are worth talking about.

I agree. There is a whole world of comics topics out there it isn't just
Fantasy there are many diverse catagories(science fiction, horror, action
adventure. etc.). Adding fantasy as one of the major focuses would limit both
confers. I would also like to see an independent comics item, and maybe after
Motor City con aa discussion of new and upcoming comic artists.

Good points Mike and Tanya. I do think that you were thinking Age of Heroes,
not Hall of Heroes (Age of Heroes is a fantasy comic from Halloween Comic that
is heading to Image, while Hall of Heroes is a publishing company which from
the stories I've read have no fantasy content). As you may have seen, I have
added an independant comic item to the confer and am howing to see more in
there. I also sugest putting a little something in Agora trying to get more
people for both of the Comic and Fantasy confers.

bio and pez are now the fair-witnesses of this conference.
Congratulations! I suggest that the first thing they should do
is change the login screen and replace my name and jimj's with
their own. >8)

Yeah, coolness! Although, since I have never been a fairwitness, I may need
a little tutoring. I have a good idea of what a fairwitness does, I still lack
the experiance. You will find I'm a quick learner and I'm totally egar for
this job.

ok.. it's item 26 in the info bbs.. but when i try to do anything it says "You
can't do that!" .. did you forget to tell the bbs that me and bio are the
new f-w's robh?
bio
response 20 of 34: Mark Unseen   Feb 20 06:39 UTC 1997

I was thinking, this is really a three person confer with ocational fourth
dropping by. Even though this is only three people right now I strongly think
we should keep it going for the sake of the interaction between the three of
us and the fact there are occational people who read once every month or so.
I'm personaly trying to get more readers. But as for the actual fairwitness,
why does there only have to be two? Why can't there be three fairwitnesses?
Let us have Mike, Luke and I be fairwitnesses. I thinkl this is a solution
that would make us all happy.

I'm indifferent to being a fairwitness since I'm too new to computers and
grex.

response 22 of 34: Mark Unseen   Mar 6 03:16 UTC 1997

Okay, I have tryed alomost everything to get new readers, I sent about e-mails
to about 20 past readers, I've put an anoucement in Agora, I've begged my
friends. What can we do to get more readers???
otaking
response 23 of 34: Mark Unseen   Mar 8 12:57 UTC 1997

We could put announcements in the SF and Fantasy conferences. We could try
to bring up the conference at the weekly Grex walk. We could post fliers
about Grex mentioning the comics conference. Or we could create 20
pseudonyms each and make the conference look busier than Agora.

response 24 of 34: Mark Unseen   Mar 9 06:18 UTC 1997

I like the pseudonym part, but Steve King is doing that with his twenty some
odd logins. The poster sound like a cool idea which we could post up at all
of the 8 comic stores around town. Would you like to help me on this Mike?
Is anyone a regular reader of these conferances? If there is could you make
an announcement next time you read. I've done it in Agora and Films (in the
Anime Item).
