Ride wanted for computer to Battle Creek, for people from Detroit
|
Nov 17 17:12 UTC 2008 |
We are trying to get a computer to Battle Creek area, near whatever highway
goes to Chicago, for someone unemployed whose computer 'broke'. Would
someone be willing to meet him for pickup (and also bring us the 'broken'
one), or even take a look at it and run an antivirus program from CD?
Any time this month, the sooner the better. Also we could use a ride back
from Detroit area in late December (we have a ride there) for two people.

Ten miles from Battle Creek is also okay. Marshall is okay. The prospective
user says he has to drive 10 miles to reach a library but is 2 miles from the
highway. Not exactly in town anyway. Towards Kalamazoo, I think. He can
meet someone heading to Chicago or Kalamazoo.

We have someone bringing the computer and picking up the computer today, a
friend from west of Kalamazoo going to Detroit airport. Still want a ride
back from Detroit area. The train would work but involves standing outdoors
for an hour waiting for it to be late an hour after the bus station closes.

Our current plan is to go to the art museum on Monday and then get to the
Detroit bus station by 6 pm and pay $9 each for the express bus, which is
probably stinky of diesel, but the train leaves around 5 (also from within
a mile of the museum) and costs about twice as much and is usually an hour
late. I dont' understand why Amtrak is choosing to price itself out of the
market. Last year it was $22 round trip if you bought 2 months in advance,
$27 round trip one month in advance, and probably $35 bought the same day.
Bus round trip is $17 and it leaves on time. And you can probably leave from
here to Detroit on the first bus, earlier than the first train which leaves
at 3 or 4 pm. The train used to let us take our bikes but now they have to
be folding bikes because Michigan trains don't allow people to put things into
the baggage compartment.
