Window air conditioners for sale $25 each

We have three used, not very recent, but working air conditioners for sale
this weekend for $25 each.  5000-6000 btu and EER claimed to be about 6.4-7.5.
(New ones can be as high as EER 11).  If you only want to use them a few days
a summer these come out cheaper than a new one.  GE and Emerson.  The three
people who called our Freebie ad had sliding windows that needed the vertical
types. Our are 21" wide and fit in up-and-down not side-to-side windows.
One person wanted to replace her 90s model with something newer (something
less than 5 years old for $25?).  Someone else wanted 8000 BTU for his
bedroom, to use when it is 60's to 70's outside.

In the past three days we have rescued two neighbors who could not sleep by
putting either a large fan in the kitchen window blowing out, or putting a
small fan in the bedroom window blowing in (with a small one blowing out in
the kitchen and a floor model in the den blowing air around).  

We are doing okay just opening one window downstairs and one upstairs at night
then closing up when it hits 76 outside in the morning.  Lots of insulation.

One potential buyer says his landlord requires tenants to have no more than
one 5000 BTU model, and to pay $75 to the management for 'installation'
(opening the window, putting the air conditioner into it, adjusting the
accordion pleats to fit, closing the window, and plugging it in) and they do
this on a specific day at the start and end of cooling season, so he is
planning to sneak something into a back window a few days this summer when
needed.  They pay their own electricity.  Odd.  Nothing allowed in front. 
He will put it where nobody can see it from the street.  

One neighbor just left a phone message thanking us for a night's sleep.

It is still 76 in here, has not cooled off yet since we opened up.
The new house stays cool for a few days without being ventilated at all but
eventually hits 80 degrees.
