High-end (but now old) dual-processor motherboards Mark Unseen   Mar 24 18:22 UTC 2005

A friend of mine is looking for good homes for some older motherboards -
things that were very high-end when new. Dual PII or PIII processors,
integrated SCSI, etc. Also one with a 64-bit Alpha processor (ran a version
of Windows NT, but I believe you can get 64-bit Alpha versions of Linux).
Also a SCSI Jaz drive and some other odd bits.

If they are being given away rather than sold we might have fun playing with
them. I just learned to use IDE and SCSI 100MB zip drives in DOS and linux,
and we have one dual PII board with 200MHz processors. Could we offer to
repair something electrical in exchange? Or a bike?
I have never played with Alpha linux. If someone else wants these they should
get first crack as we just got a boxful of toys mailed to us including two
broken digital cameras and a parport zip drive.

If he has an eBay account, putting the Alpha board up there might be a
good bet. There are a lot of people who seek out Alpha hardware.

(I'd be interested if I didn't already own an AlphaPC. I run FreeBSD on
it.)

do the dual-proc mobos have processors on them, or are they just the boards?

Processors, no memory.

Here I am Grexing from the one motherboard that would fit my old case, the
overclocked Athlon.

Anybody trying to get rid of some bigger PC cases?

ATX or AT?

Scott, we have one very large ATX case that we can give you.

ATX, I would imagine.

Does 8 refer to 7?

I have a fairly recent Dell Dimension case, for a standing tower. Don't have
measurements off the top of my head, but I can take a tape to it if there's
interest.

It has a motherboard but is otherwise stripped---not even a processor.

Our case does not have a motherboard any more (it was recycled).

Well, I'm interested in a VTX case bigger than my current one.

What is a VTX case?

Er, ATX means I.

7.5x16.5x19" (just above my knee-height). From Leeron. The board in it kept
resetting its speed and doing other odd things. Three large bays, two small
ones with one floppy drive in one. Turquoise on/off button. We seem to have
taken out the ATX power supply but Reuse Center had one. Do you want it left
on our porch tomorrow?

Sounds about right - sure, I'll try to drop by later in the afternoon.

It is on the porch. Watch out for birdies trying to build a nest in the
mailbox. If you want additional cases you could check Kiwanis, and MCRS used
to sell used ones for $12. Thanks for making some space under the bed here.

Anyone from this thread want an Alpha Server? It's nearly 100 pounds.
Unknown condition other than power supply blown. Free to good home.
