New Caddie entry Mark Unseen   Jan 3 02:38 UTC 1996

Anyone heard any scoop on the new "Youth Market" cadillac being introduced
this month? It is a renamed european GM car (Opel?).

Mcpoz, check out the current issues of _Automobile_, _Motor Trend_, and other
such car magazines. Some of them may even have a photo of the Cadillac Catera
(that's what it's called, but how they came up with that name I'll never
know!). BTW, already they are making comparisons to Cadillac's ill-fated
Cimarron (Chevrolet Cavalier clone). And yes, it is a badge-engineered German
Opel.

My family has gone through 3 German Opels. The Opel Manta was my favorite.

I always thought of Opel as low end consumer cars. I did like, however, the
old Opel GT. I keep my eyes open for one and someday may buy one. (Probably
not).

I think Opal offers a pretty wide range of cars in Europe, from low end to
high end. Last time I was in Western Europe for very long they were the only
GM cars around.

When I lived in England ten years ago my parents bought a used Opal Kadett,
which borke down a lot. I'd hope they've gotten better since then.

I had a '68 Opel Kadett wagon. It was 13 years old when I sold it. Someone
gave me $400 for it even though they it was pretty well rusted out! Didn't
even give me a chance to put an ad in the paper. It was one of the worst cars
I owned. It couldn't deal with the liberal amount of salt we spread on our
roads here and I was constantly patching holes in it. Tha Manta was a much
better car and it handled very well. It was well suited for zipping up and
down parking garages with the greatest of ease ;) The last German Opel I saw
was at Ford when I went there for an interview. They had it set up on a dyno
and were running all kinds of tests on it. It looked like a very nice car!
An Opel Kapatin or somesuch...
