My vote for best junkyard.

I was in southern Arizona last week and saw a really great junk yard in
Huachuca City. (SE of Tucson, about 20 miles from Mexico). This yard had
all of the old cars lined up with the model and year written on the windshield
and they were for sale. Most had the paint essentially gone and a red rusted
surface showing, but the metal looked solid and none of the "display" autos
were torn up. There were a lot of cars from the 40's 50's and 60's. I took
a picture of a 1947 Crosley Station Wagon, and a Graham, about '37 (I could
not see the year, and I am not familiar with Grahams).
This was the most catering to restorers I have ever seen in an auto salvage
yard.

A little tougher to pull that sort of thing off here in the Rust Belt. :(

Yeah! The cars in the SW look like they would last 100 years without special
care.

I was visiting my sister in Berkely. You can see cars there that are 20 years
old or older, that have dents with missing paint (exposed metal!) and little
or no rust. Nothing worth worrying about, except that new paint won't stick
to rust and you would have to do a little sanding to repaint.
here in Michigan you'll see 15 year old cars (or newer) with big holes in the
sides from rust.

The junkyard I visited to get the new engine for my car is one of a
dying breed in that it's _really_ a junkyard. I guess that the modern
junkyards, instead of leaving cars lying around the lot, will strip
the remains for parts, inventoring what they can use and discarding
the rest. That takes away part of the thrill/horror of seeing row
after row of crushed steel.

What opinions do you have on Diehl Auto Parts on Plymouth Road near the
Courtyard Shops?

I've dealt with Diehl several times over the last couple years.
They've usually had what I needed (or were able to get it in a few
days)...this for a 1982 Pontiac T1000. I got the feeling they'd rather
deal with businesses than individuals (just an impression) but they've
come through for me and my small purchases (called me promptly to let
me know my parts had come in, for example). When calling around for an
engine for that T1000, Diehl was one of the higher bidders, for
whatever that is worth.

Diehl is a bit more pricy but I've been happy with everything I've gotten
from them. Any junk yard that has the part I need is a contender so I'll
call all in my area.
